Hello, having an issue with my 90 (TD5) and I live in Canada so fixing my throwing parts at it isn't as easy for me, haha.

My fuel pump was screaming for about 6 months and it finally started to cause me to loose power and eventually stall out... I would wait a couple mins then try to start it a few times to eventually take off where I could drive for 3-5 km and then it would start to loose power until it would stall again. Because of the loud fuel pump I assumed it was just the pump giving up the ghost... but I replace the pump and it stills will stall out after driving a few km's.

I have lots of pressure comping up from the fuel pump, but I don't want to replace the regulator with out testing it if possible. I also found there is a fuel pump relay under the seat.

I guess my ask is, is there anything else in the circuit that coulee be the problem besides those two items and anything I can do to narrow it down? Also a part number for the relay would be helpful if that could be the culprit.
 
Filter in wheel arch?
Did you check the state of the fuel in the tank?
If its dirty it can block the pick up pump gauze filters
 
I have not, is there an easy way to check it with out dropping the tank?

Not done def pump but done a few disco ones
Fuel bug is a real issue
Did you look at the state of the fuel from the old filter?
 
Could a fuel pump relying cause this? Would anyone have a party number for a fuel relay? Or know if it shares a relay with a discovery or another model? In Canada part shops don't carry Defender parts, but they carry Discovery and other land rover parts.
 
The injector harness may be letting oil back to the ECU under drivers seat, unplug and check the red socket on ECU for oil it is a common problem on TD5, and check for poor or dirty/corroded connections at fuel pump relay, check the fuel pressure regulator for leaks it is at rear drivers side of engine, there is a sensor on FPR ensure it is secure.
Check for air leaks on the fuel pipes and filter, check tank vent and filler cap vent are clear.

thanks! seems like its the fuel pump relay... popped one out from beside it and it seems to run great.... leaves me to my next question... do you know what the 4 other relays beside the fuel pump relay do? a diagram of what they are connected to?
 
thanks all. found the relay... what I can't seem to find is the amp rating for the relay? I see some replacements are 30amp, 40amp, 70amp... does anyone one know the size requirement?
 
Update... Fuel pup relay didn't fix the issue... but I'm im smelling burnt electronics from behind the gauge cluster... removed it and can't feel anything getting warm... anything in that area that could cause it to stall out every few miles?
