Not sure I would go the stainless route, mild steel systems are way cheaper than SS so you could replace the original exhaust many times (over a lot of years) for the same overall cost. If you do want to go the SS route and can't find an off the shelf replacement then there are many specialist companies that will make systems for you, but probably charge a bit of a premium.

Hmmm my current exhaushas lasted about 1.5 years. Very crap but you do have a point.

I agree, the cheap replacement sections only tend to last a couple of years. Every time I need to replace a piece I look for a stainless replacements but have found the same as you, the are all complete kits which are prohibitively expensive when you only need one piece. I keep saying i am going to research to local garages and see how much to "custom" one from the old section but have not got around to it yet.

No idea about getting individual stainless sections.
I gave up with mild steel Exhausts, as I was lucky to 2 years out of them. The stainless is now 5 years old with no problems. So less than 5 years to go and it'll have paid for itself. If you include the grief of having to change all the bits in the past, it already has paid for itself.

I bought my 90 7 yrs ago and it had a janspeed (I think) system fitted, its still good now, it been cut/shut to fit ptos/exhaust flex after it cracked. heated red hot to bend the pipes around things and still is solid, I dont know how much it cost but if keeping the car its a wise purchase.

Might be worth looking at the so called sports systems as they are cheaper because no middle silencer fitted, I cut mine out years ago and it made diddly squat to the noise that I could notice.

Apart from the back box, mine has been on for nearly 15 years and still going strong.
Why did the back box fail?
Sone eejit tried to push me sideways, and hit the back quarter square on and slid underneath without denting a panel, but did bend the tail pipe before bouncing off the wheel.

Spose it depends on how often you use it and the mileage you do. Mine is used every day for the drive to work. Exhaust gets hot so reduces condensation in the system. Therefore, M/S system lasts a long time. If it was a weekend, fun vehicle, then a SS system might be worth forking out for.

Do you know anyone local handy with a welder (mig or tig) you can buy the bends and flanges online and make your own custom exhaust. Thats what i’m planning to do with mine.
