All these guys using no cats, is that legal? Does it pass MOT ok or do you have to stick the original back on each year to MOT then take it off again?


If the car was made in or after 1993 no it's not legal. But nobody seems to care least of all me. Laws being broken are construction and use regulations. As for MOT there is a debatable "ensure no parts are missing" thing that de-catted vehicles could be failed on even if they are running on LPG and pass the emissions test. But testers don't seem to bother about it unless it fails emissions. But even if the car is running on LPG alone like many yard fork lifts do that don't need a cat, if it's used on the road it MUST have a cat if made in or after 1993 no matter what fuel it uses. That is as i understand it.

I'm with Wammers above, I frankly could care less, plenty worse going on round our way than an open piped rangie!!!! I must admit to taking it easy on the way up our road just to show some deference to my neighbours, not that they show any to me.....

I have retained my manifolds and cats, mines a 92, and gone from the Y-pipe with the tube and put the cherry bomb just by the sill of the drivers door.

Voguely - you really need to make friends with a MOT tester mate, saves a huge amount of hassle come test -time!!:)

Haha, cheers! Although not had an MOT dramas with mine - although there is nothing wrong on it so I'd hope not. I wasn't planning on de-catting anyway, I'm quite happy with my stainless steel system as it is. I was just making the point in case others on here are planning on doing it and then end up failing an MOT.

Out of interest have you seen any noticable power increase with a straight through system?

Diesels DONT need cats for mot... i de-cated all my previous vans and landies... plannin on doing my P38 next lol
 
A diesel with straight through pipes? Does that not sound horrendous? Its one thing to bring out a nice sounding petrol V8, but amplifying the sound of agriculture?! Can't imagine it quite has the same effect!?

No they don't, because CO2 is not measured on diesels only smoke. BUT according to construction and use regulations you MUST have a cat fitted if the vehicle was built in or after 1993. That is the law i am afraid. Watch out for VOSA picking up on this and tightening up on the MOT. The only way to decat a diesel and not be caught is to remove the internals and fit a straight pipe through it so it does not resonate. That way no one is any the wiser.
 
No fett, we couldnt make a good one out of all 5. lol.
I have a classic 3.9 with a double SS full system. Sounds nice not too loud. looks ok but tailpiep is 3 1/3 inch and would not suit the brooklands kit. (have brooklands on my other 3.9) the Brooklands needs 2 tailsp pipes to fill the hole properly. Oh and the Double SS didn't fit properly had to bend to a fair bit and it still hits gearbox cross member.
