Disco 2 SRS light after steering wheel change

So I am refurbishing my Discovery 2 and have replaced the seats and steering wheel and having put it all back together, I now have an SRS light illuminated on the dash.
When I replaced the seats, I reused the existing pretensioners and made sure the yellow plugs were reconnected.
On the steering, I replaced the steering wheel complete with its own spiral connector and made sure everything was plugged back in.

Would disconnecting everything have caused the SRS light to illuminate or is it telling me there is actually a fault?

I hear that there could be several versions of the spiral (yellow) connector block - I stupidly threw the old wheel and block away so could this be the problem?

Any knowledgeable thoughts/ideas?
 
it's possible that the rotary coupler in the replacement to be at fault.... to make sure you'll have to read the stored fault code
 
I've got a code reader coming on Saturday so hopefully that will let me know - I didn't know if a disconnect and reconnect would illuminate the lamp which then needed to be switched off using a reader.

You should have the vehicle battery disconnected and wait for twenty minutes discharge time or so before working on anything connected to SRS. It is standard procedure to do so, unless you want a face full of airbag. .
 
The warning is in cos the system is identifying a current fault, when the fault will not be there anymore the warning goes out by itself no need to erase stored codes for that
 
I just bought the iCarsoft LR2 - hopefully that will tell me what is wrong.
Yes, I did know to leave the battery disconnected for 30 minutes before working and also to ALWAYS place the airbag down with the plastic part to the top :)
OK, so it's a current fault so I will need to do some diagnosis.

As others have said, unless you have left something unplugged i would suspect the rotary coupling. If anything like the P38 it MUST be fitted in it's null position with wheels straight ahead or turning the steering wheel will destroy it. Good luck.

Sadly, if you run a diesel Disco 2 I wouldn't hold out much hope of any sensible information from the iCar thing. They advertise that it will work on Land Rovers but they don't tell you which Land Rovers it won't work on. The only code readers known to give truthful, useful results from a Diesel Disco before mid 2004 are the Nanocom, Hawkeye, Lynx and Testbook.

Correct, only diesels from 2004 on are OBDII compliant and in many cases that only applies to the engine. Not to manufacturer specific systems.
 
it's in the description of each kit, the one for Discovery Td5 will cover EVERYTHING on all D2 Td5 modells(and engine for defender), including complex programming capability of all systems
 
For nanocom do not go to ebay, buy directly from BBS. I got mine on a group buy, so was about £240.

Hawkeye, I personally would buy the hawkeye total which is new on the market as it is unlocked for all LR models. cost is about £300.

Lynx is about £280 , but afaik vehicle specific, but you need a laptop,

Testbook I have never looked at price.

Testbook? If you have to ask, you can't afford it!
It tends to be the Main Stealer's diagnostic kit of choice.
