Hi all. I have a very annoying squeak from my steering. I’ve replaced the belt and got as much tension on the belt as possible but it still squeaks when turning. I’ve taken a video of the pulleys and you can see it slipping.. could it be the pulley or do I really get some tension on the belt with a crow bar or something?! Any help appreciated. Cheers

On some of the defenders there is a square hole for a breaker bar to fit. This allows more tension.
Have you got the correct belt that fits into the pulley?

If it is a def 200 do not do the belt to tight as over time is will wreck the pas pump, as the bearing at the end of the extended nose can fail and allow thre shaft to snap off.
Decent quality belt and non shiny pulleys will help.

Hot and cold, seems to be all the time. I videoed the pulley and can see it slipping. Will try a different belt
Dayco are the belt of choice.
With the belt off, does the pulley feel right, solid not flopping around etc.
Is the fluid fresh ?

Brake cleaner will take any varnish or dirt/oil off the pulleys and the belt.
It will not rot the belt.

It rots the belts
That's debatable according to Google, or should I say VERY debatable.
Suggests it's best not to soak rubber in brake cleaner but seems like a silly thing to make a cleaner that cleans brake components which include rubber.

I’ll take the belt off and have a wobble of the pulley. Yes fluid is fresh and full. So is that a no or yes for brake cleaner?

Buy a good belt, there is an actual measurement of belt deflection when adjusting the belt. As mentioned if its too tight you will cause other problems for your pump and alternator. Dayco belts are cheap enough to change every few years.
You can buy a belt conditioner spray if you feel the need.
