I have some new springs to go on my 90 . Just measured the old ones that are still fitted and are 280mm , The new ones to go on standard height are 400mm . That's 5 inches taller in English ok not fitted . Will they compress that much , or are the old ones totally goosed , and the new ones will only compress 2 inches ???? , if so it will be like a 3 inch lift ,

Sorry, but your measurements do not make sense.

Old springs won't return to the same size as the new ones. The new ones will unlikely compress as much as the old ones.
The old ones are old and the new ones are new!
If your old ones are totally worn out then yes your 90 will be sitting lower than it should
 
A 120mm difference , how much will they compress when fitted , roughly ,, New are Standard old no idea ,no markings etc

They certainly won't compress that much, but compression, and the difference between new and worn might add to that much.

So long as you have the springs indicated for your vehicle in this chart, and fitted in the right places, there should be no problem.

These were my old yellow rear springs. HD +2inches

On vehicle the old ones measured 315mm fully loaded, the old springs free state measured 412mm as pictured. As you can see the new ones were significantly longer, It ended up sitting approx 20mm taller on the new springs.

No offence, but your workshop floor could use a sweep. Doesn't look clinically clean to me! ;):D
 
Wow what a difference , looks like I'm getting a lift if I want one or not lol .
Thanks everyone at least I know what to expect , so if old ones are Standard they are ready to be changed , Just hope the new soften the ride and not make it worse .

Usually the same, nobody ever seems to think about springs much.
When I changed the standard springs on my Ninety for new standard all round, I undid the clamps, jacked up the rear, and the old ones fell out on the floor! :D
You will notice a difference in ride quality and handling as well.

You will see that my old vs new springs are not the same, old ones were HD new ones were dual rate. The new ones drove a lot nicer.

Im hoping it will improve it , and by what you say it should make a huge difference, im sure it cant make it worse . Im Fitting new shocks also . Im hoping the fronts will turn up tomorrow so then i can do both ends at once . The fronts are UKM from Bearmach , i didn't realise they did two bearmach types , but checking bearmach direct again they do cheaper bearmach coils that don't also say UKM , is that UK manufactured ? . So i paid more for the fronts than i needed to of done , so i hope they are better than the standard bearmach front springs .
 
I may go for some progressive if these don't work . But i needed a base line so i know if i need progressive , light load , HD or whatever . The old ones are just so rusty there's no way to tell what they are .

Can't see you're going to be able to compare by measuring one unmarked & therefore unknown spring fitted to the vehicle & another one off. You're going to do better taking one off & comparing them side by side.
