if you can do the sensor swap, be careful of the bolts. On mine they are held into the plastic casings on the sensor. There is a risk they may turn braking the plastic...
 
Mines a 95 so looks like I cant swap the sensor over, I'll try and have a look at it tonight. It might not even be connected up properly, this thing has been on springs for three years so there's bound to be a bit of messing around I suppose.

If I do need a sensor where's the best place to get them, I've seen a few second hand ones on eBay but not sure I fancy fitting one of them.

Hopefully I'm not boring everyone with these updates, I removed the height sensor plug and cleaned up the connectors (slight corrosion). I reset the faults and the car rose up but has now dropped down on the back right corner. I'm guessing the height sensor is too blame??

If it went up to standard height and stayed there with engine running. Then dropped after you switched off, it is not the height sensor. You have a leak.

Get her sitting up again, switch off ignition and remove keys, then under the pax seat pull the tall eas timer relay out, this will freeze the system. Leave it overnight....if it still sinks, it is an air leak, if it is still at the right height it is more than likely a sensor.

Put timer rely back before you switch on ignition or it will throw a wobbler....
 
As sat in the car, sounds good, try putting it up then pull the self level delay timer relay under passenger seat and leaving it, it will show if you have any leaks on pipe work, if it still drops rear right might not be sensor.

Have you tried Brian's test yet, before changing sensors??

I think this car is trying to drive me mad, I've just started it up test it by removing the timer relay and the compressor just destroyed itself.............Off to look or bits to repair the motor end or buy a complete new one.

Was the grub screw properly tightened that holds the piston onto the shaft? Check that even if it is brand new. I had a new one once that was loose and it ripped itself to shreds.

Yes, these cars are sent to test us. For the first year or two I damn nearly gave up several times but since then, well, I'd better whisper, it has been the most reliable motor.
