Spring replacement

Got me some springs coming to replace the aged, worn ones on the 110.

Backs should be pretty straight forward, but what about the fronts.

Do I need spring compressors, and am I likly to need any other parts (apart form nuts & bolts), ie retaining plates, and how likley is it that the front shocks will come apart to get the spring out without damage? or should I expect to need new front shocks too?

The bolts on my front shocks were knackered, so ended up taking a grinder & drill to bits of them.....that said the shocks themselves were also knackered, so wasn't an issue.

It depends what shocks you've got on....if they're only OEM and a few years old, replacing them (or at least being prepared to replace them) may be a good idea.....if they're more expensive ones, I guess it's a bit of a bigger decision...

I ended up using a ratchet strap, used a jack to jack the axle up (ie compress spring), then secure the spring with the strap and then lower axle. Would have been easier with spring compressors though i think......

Cheers, thought as much.

afaik the front shocks are the 140K originals, Ive no reason to believe otherwise, and they look it, so was erring on changing em anyway tbh rears are newer, they were changed just before I bought it so only done about 20K
Might just buy some new shinier ones

If you are doing the shocks anorl and taking off the turret rings, get some new ones, apparently you will shear off the studs, although mine all came off nice and easy when I did mine

. I found it easier with spring compressors, I haven't got a clue what I'm doing though

), although a lot of peeps say you don't need them, they certainly don't make the job any harder if you can get hold of a set

I did a full suspension swap outside my house. Spring compressors are not necessary unless using lift springs. The rear springs are super easy to replace. The shock mount bolts can be a real pain in the ass however. I think it would be beneficial to you to change the shocks too. As for the front which is a bit more fiddly, Make sure you've got new turret rings as the bolts often snap. Be sure to clean up the inside and outside of the turrets and watch for the washer on the top that can sometimes stay in there. I'll have some pics up in a few mins from when I did mine.

Yep, certainly could come to that. I believe we had to grind the lower spring retainer bolt on the back off.

Here we are:

This was all just over a year ago and I am now having to change my springs to HD ones for towing the Disco.

Glad I got those doors reskinned they look crap there

Hmmm how it changes in a year or so. So much done, so much money
