I suspect it will, I’ll update later when I go to work however, I’m used to driving ‘vans’ without rear view mirrors anyway so it won’t bother me.

Yeah, not too bad if you are used to driving vans.
How are you finding the d2, I'm hoping to get one at some point.
 
Glad you said what it was, I would have thought it was a bit tight on space to sleep on, would keep hitting my head...LOL.

Is there anything fitted to stop something sliding backwards and taking out the rear window? or bouncing around and smashing an alpine?

Alpines, no, nothing there. There is about an inch ‘U’ return on the back edge at the bottom so it’ll stop anything sitting on the rack sliding backwards.
I’ll be getting some bungee straps to put over my kit and due to the design it’s easy to tie-down your kit.

It’s my first Landy although I’ve been driving other people’s (see the start of this thread) for a number of years.

I’d strongly advise being fussy about the one you get. TD5, face lift and preferably the ES/ES Premium or even the Metropolis if you can get your hands on one tho they were a Limited Edition so rare and getting rarer.

The ES/Metropolis has all the toys including heated leather seats, electric windows/sunroofs etc.

I’m sure I’ll have a “pull your hair out” time with it at some point and I’m expecting the odd breakdown but as you can see, I carry tools and am not afraid to use them as needed.
 
That's a neat idea! Out of interest, does it block vision from the rear view mirror?:)

@Harveyg582 I can happily and with a fair chunk of surprise, report that the view out of the rear-view mirror is completely unobstructed!!
The spare tyre and centre head rest cause more obstruction on their own than this rack does! :eek::D

If you hang anything off the bottom of it, THAT will cause an obstruction but all good otherwise! :D:D
 
Load mugger looks mint! What does it bolt to to take the weight? I can't wait to treat mine to shiny things one day rather than cutting it apart and scraping mastik

Very simple to fit once you get your head around the instructions. Unfortunately the photos in them are less than clear but once you can see what you’re doing. It’s easy.

I seen one of these fitted on another D2 for sale but I didn't know who made them I love it :cool:
I want one for my D1 where did you buy it from ;)

I do really like the look of the facelift d2, and I would ideally want an ES/premium in the same green as yours, is that called Epsom green?

There’s captive nuts already in the body shell for the handle for the 3rd row of seats and the dog guard. It comes with a template to drill the holes to access them.
I don’t know what the weight loading of it is but I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting significant weight on it...

Reading through the many posts on here has given me confidence that with a bit of common sense and basic mechanical/electrical knowledge, anything is possible on these vehicles. Just don’t be afraid to ask, everyone on here seems friendly and helpful and willing to give advice as needed.

It’s fairly simple really. A piece of flat steel bent to just less than 90* with a big hole for the handle (if fitted for 3rd row) and two holes for the fixing screws and then two captive nuts on the horizontal face to bolt the main rack onto. The rack itself can be removed by undoing 4 bolts leaving just the bracket in place either side.

Saved piccy nice one, think id be cutting the excess threads off they bolts or putting a couple of harness eye bolts to clip

No worries.

Yeah, the threads in the captive nuts were shagged for some reason so those sent with it wouldn’t fit so just used those, I’ll be getting some a bit shorter and some domed nuts. Although I like the idea of hooped bolts for it!
 
I’ve been out in the sun this afternoon starting to fit my Southdown snorkel. The engine bay is just about ready now.

Remove this bit;

That is for the flexi hose to fit through. Too hot for using a dremel today but got it done in the end. I’ll stick a bit of paint on that metal tomorrow to stop rusting.

I’ve also centre punched the wing, ready for stitch drilling g the hole for the stainless pipe to fit through that I painted the other day;

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get this drilled out and get the ‘A’ Pillar drilled and rivnuted and maybe even finish the whole job off.
 
Been at it again today;

Stitch drilled the hole with a 3mm bit to start with;

Then used a 4.5mm bit to join all the holes together;

Tidied it up a bit with the dremel then simply threaded the hose through and connected it all up;

And finished off fitting the snorkel itself;

Another good days work!! Next job is to replace the breather pipes from the diff’s etc and run them up to the top of the snorkel.

I’m not planning on any serious wading but at the same time I’d like to know that I’m safe in deeper than average water should the need arise.
 
Another job done today, I’ve cable tied a circle of 25mm black split conduit under the roof rack to keep all my planned wiring tidy. I’ve also fitted amber LED strobes under the back of the roof rack.
At present these are temporarily wired (along with the double amber beacon on the front) to cigarette plug but I’ve also ordered a pod from Raptor Engineering with a custom face plate to fit a row of carling switches for all my planned lighting.

Here’s a rough idea of what I have planned;

So that’s two white floods on both sides and the rear, the amber strobes and high level stop/tail/indicators on the rear and then 4 spots and two floods on a separate bar at the front.
All LED to keep the power down as much as possible. I’m planning on a bit of clever wiring to include a relay to switch the side/rear floods off when the hand break is dropped (on the -ve side) and of course the 6 on the front will be wired to high beam only so all will be MOT compliant HOWEVER I am also planning on a couple of override key switches for when off road so that all white lights can be turned on regardless of hand-break or main beam.
 
A quick job today that leads the way to a lot of wiring work. Fitted a Raptor Engineering dash pod with a custom panel cut for 11 carling switches.

Excuse the hand in the picture, the sun’s in the wrong position!!o_O

Very easy to fit, remove the stereo, and the vent louvres. Put the dash pod in place and stick the two included bolts and big washers in through the radio hole and up through the holes in the pod and do the nuts up. Refit the radio and job done! Simples!:D

One tip.... don’t drop the bolts!! They fall down into the dash which then requires removal to retrieve said bolt..... that part took longer than fitting the pod!!:confused::mad:

It also provides a great mounting place for my 4x4 response call sign card :D:D
