Well, after having a chat with my local specialist after my breakdown last week, he asked why I have a push button start - my response, as it does not start on the key. He explained all about the spider and chances are mine was on its way out.

So I then contacted my local landy parts man to get the bypass plug, to be told there are 2 types of Spider and mine is just on the change-over - one is £12.00 and the other £170 plus vat

So I took the £12.00 one in the hope...but no....

After doing this....

I found this.....

nothing there...not even a trace of any wire in case the bypass had already been installed.....so looks like mine is the later one, bloomin typical the way my luck has gone lately :(

Hi stu,

Interesting what you say about 2 different types of spider (unless you simply mean tdi/V8)

I was told (by Ebay seller sprogthedog) that the spider was introduced in 1996 and that as mine is the same year the only way I could check would be to take a look myself, contrary to what I've read about dismantling the dash to get to it I was told it was a 10 minute job and could be got to if I took the stereo out, 10 minutes later the job was done but it was tricky, the only problem is that it hasn't bypassed my starter immobilization so worst case I can still bump her now when she is immobilized, one reason I also want a start button.

Mine was part number AMR 4956

I am now just wondering if i have a knackered ignition barrel, so am going to look into that next

hi all just a quick note lol hello! new to this forum , just got myself a disco on a "N" plate. having few problems so thought id try your brains out, am snookered. bought a plug to by pass immobilizer, fitted plug but I still need to press the fob to start. removed the spider, key reader around ignition barrel and this funny switch thing that sounds an annoying alarm when door is open. how can I do away with my fob so I can get in and out and start disco with key only, may I add that my alarm has been unplugged from the siren as it keeps going off if plugged in. was like this when I bought it a few months ago.any help would be most appreciated . dave

Steal someone elses motor?

Steal someone elses motor?
whats that suppose to mean, been having problems with the fob since I bought it months ago, the other day was the last straw , when the fob battery went flat leaving me in middle of a farmers field whilst pigeon shooting. it would be a lot easyer to do away with it and start on key like my car.

Single or twin button fob?
Why not just resync it?

Yu dont actually expect peeps to tell you how to bypass all the security stuff, on an open forum, do you?

Well my problem is fixed :D

Was a knackered relay in the drivers footwell. Replaced it and she now starts in the key again.

Only new issue is that there is a hole that needs welding up right next to the relays, which is why i guess it got knackered with water ingress. Have temp fixed it with duct tape

Mine also has the siren unplugged so only the hazards flash when the alarm goes off, was like it when I bought it and isn't a problem as there is a "secret" way to start it that only the Mrs and I know and we don't keep anything valuable in it anyway.

Can you bump it when the red immob light is flashing on the dash? With mine you can so the bypass plug seems to have only worked on the fuel pump and injectors (V8)

If so you could always wire up a push start, I plan on it as atm I have to press the fob just before starting also.

It should automatically turn off the immob without the button being pressed (I think 2 signals can come from the fob, an active and a passive so either the fobs half knackered or the receiver near the ignition barrel is).

Took advantage of a sunny afternoon to whip of the front wing and weld up the inner wing part.

Jobs all done and fully sealed, so hopefully that will be the end of that.

mines a derv, and the 2 button fob. been to a landy breaker and he said it could be a dry joint on fob, going to have it re soldered, but rather do away with it altogether.if its not needed less for things to go wrong. only had it 3months and had new breaks all round, new clutch, new tyres to the back, and new down pipe. turning in to a money pit to be honest. having second thoughts about why I bought it tbh. I haven't tried bumping it whilst red light is on, might have to give it a go. got a button for starting but not wired up!
