Afternoon all, I have just bought a 2003 TD5 90 S.W and want to fit extra speakers in the back. Has anyone else done this and if so where do you recommend putting the speakers as i am finding somwhere to fit them nigh on impossible ?
Steve

yes, i've a complete audio system with intel pc on board my Td5.

you can mount them at the top in each of the the corners. but as mine has rear air conditioning, i made use of the 'box' for the speakers to be mounted.

alternatively you can also fabricate 2 small enclousure in the corners mount them to rail which supports the roof.

why you shouldn't have them using the factory mountings (if you have a county) just above the wheel box is that it's too low to be heard and it gets in the way (easy to damage) when carrying stuff in the back.

Thanks for the tip achuakh, I have been thinking about fabbing up something to house the speakers in and having them at the rear at high level as i think too far down will be open to damage and not ideal for the sound quality anyway.I don't suppose you have a picture of the finished article do you ?

i made 2 mdf boxes for my 2 6x9's and placed then in the back behind each seat behind the bulkhead i dont put alot of stuff in my back of mine put i can see it being a problem if u did

I made some brackets out of some scap aluminium and mounted them in the corners of the roof at the back. It's easy enought to do but you have to cut the roof liner down if you have one.

I built 2 MDF boxes and sprayed them the colour of my 90, they fit inside the back infront of the rear light connectors on the wheel arches facing towards the front. Speakers are 165 dia. I also angled the speakers slightly inwards

It's not where you mount the speakers that are important, however it is important where you mount the tweeters (You will not get the sound quality if the speakers have integrated tweeters)
My tweeters are mounted (siliconed) to the sides of the 90 just behind the driver and passenger seats facing towards each other and at shoulder height.

Just make sure the tweeters are adjustable for db. usually -/+ 2db

my tweeters are up on the dash board connected in parallel to the front speakers. cos that's where you spend most of your time. so the vocals will sound clearer with them there.

unless of cos you want your rear passengers to enjoy your music too. but due to the constrain of space in the rear, i've decided to go with the 3 way JBL speakers and a 8" sub on the floor (which of cos is taking up precious space, but can be removed when i need to carry stuff)

This is what you want you can put it any where in the vehicle, although I realize the cost won't suit everyones pocket an others may be waaaaay toooo coooooool to venture into the pound shop to buy the speakers which incidentally come with self adjusting woofers an tweeeters an things.
