Sparks all around - will 240V AC do though?

I'm getting a good deal of sparks from just about everywhere there is a wire on my IIA - is it worth me re-doing my own wiring loom and if so can I use (the right sized) AC mains type cables as I have loads of old red and black stuff and it would be easy to strip out the red and black wires.

Does your battery flatten it self?

If not there is no need to rewire every thing, just live with the sparkes

But if you do decide to rewire it, do it propperly, get some 13+ core cable all diffrent colours and start from scratch. If you just use red and black you will get no where and if you ever need to find a fault... good luck!

i would use vehicle 7 core wire, i did mine and it made the job very easy all different colours, and its well insulated,when i rewired from the drivers footwell i used 1 piece and the spare wires came in handy for putting extra lights on the rear end .

i have rewired many landys with conduit wiring Conduit Wiring - Buy quality Conduit Wiring at Screwfix.com make sure thers at least 7 - 10 different colours thats all, as im in the trade it dont bother me, but if yer had to buy it by the roll it could get expensive.

as long as the cable rating is correct yer can use what yer want , just mark it up when its fitted ,

Just do the job proper. You can buy the rite size and colour code cheap enuf and by the metre. Dont bodge it.

DO NOT USE 240 VOLT CABLE

it isnt sutable to use as it has no give like everybody else has said get hold of a roll or 7 core trailer cable
will handle the current and is flexible just like you need

should take a weekend to do from scratch there not complicated

I get sparks all the time when the battery is plugged in (it does start - just - but that makes the spark show more fun). I'll take the hint though ... propa stuff is the way to go. got a nice cheap battery off fleabay last week - a massive brand new ranger rover one, perhaps slight overkill but cheaper than anything I've found elsewhere.

Now it's time to find some trailer wire. Any cheap suggestions?

There's 2 ways you could look at this.

Take up the generous offer above of a roll of cable for £45-£75, then go and find a whole load of connectors, insulation tape, wiring diagram etc and spend at least a couple of days doing it .... potential cost must surely be the best part of £100 plus a couple of days labour.

Or ... buy the whole loom, brand new for around £140.

or just buy one of the brand new original series looms that Craddocks are currently selling for 75 squid ish - they even come complete with bulbs in all the holders

The looms from Auto sparks are the real deal, ive not had any problems with it over here in kiwiland, also another good tip - when yer connecting the spade/bullet connectors, put a dab of sillicone grease on/inbetween the connection, stops water destroying connections, the sillicone grease seems to last longest and wont wash off. Good luck

There much of a muchness. If id have seen that loom on ebay, it would have been snapped up!

But i spent three weeks over there and needed a loom to jet off with, Autosparks was the only option.

the AS ones have that expanded mesh over them, which i suspect is fire retardant - the original ones were simply wrapped in loom tape which certainly isn't even heat resistant

Get the right stuff and stop bodging, conduit cable is not acceptable, 7 core is for trailers...

7 core will be ok if your just re-doing the rear lights.
Unless your skilled in autoelectrics then a new loom is a really good idea and not too expensive.
If you do your own dont use the red and black mains cable especially the solid core stuff, it isnt desgned to take vibration and will break easily.
