Phone them up and tell them it's a 3 door hardtop like ah did;)
 
Yep, tried that too, thats how I know they dont have them as a listed vehicle at all, not just that it on the website!!

Ah've got my insurance through them and on the policy it just says ...
Model: 110 Defender Tdi

No mention of number of doors. But ah did phone them and tell them it was only a 3 door and they seemed quite happy with that.
 
cheers for that, perhaps i was just speaking to the worng people. It was late on and the person (called Mitch) didnt sound too british to me either!!

I will call them again during the UK call centre working time, see if they can sort me quote out!!

Oh, another question BB, was it a new policy or an amendment to another? If it was a new one, chances are they have given you insurance underwritten by Gladiator but supplied by elephant. They said they would be happy to cancel my policy and set a new one up that way. Anyhow, I will give it a go in monday!

I feel like a nice geordie telling iff is what they will be getting If a have been stressing over this for nowt!!

The previous was a station wagon with 5 doors of the smaller lr range.. Feck it! it was a gaylander... let the slaggin' begin:rolleyes: ;)
Ah can't honestly remember how the swap over went as ah had both vehicles at the same time and then got rid of the gaylander and kept the bus, but both were insured at the same time?!!?

I've used admiral, equity (DO NOT USE THEM COS THEY DON'T LIKE IT WHEN YOU CLAIM AND IT TAKES 3 MONTHS) and am currently with NFU. admiral were insuring a 5 door. Equity a 3 door and NFU a 5 door commercial station wagon with business use and the ability to tow a motor vehicle. All vehicles had declared modifications to em aswell. Sometimes you get a tw*t on the phone. You just hang up before completing the details and ring again and do it again with someone else.

cheers Fellas, I think you may be rite, I think Mitch had been havinga bad week!!!

I will try again tomorrow!! Wish me luck cos I need a car bigger than the rest of the eeejjjiiitttsss in the works car park and a 90 just aint gonna cut it!! (and I have no need for an extra 2 rusts!! (ie doors, just all they seem to do is become shorter and shorter - the fewer the better for me!!)

Well, phoned elephant again, spoke to someone in the uk who phoned me back with details.

Their theory:

any 90 hard top = estate
110 station wagon = estate
110 hard top = VAN!!!!

As it is a different body (ie fewer doors) they cant insure it as a car. As the 90 hard top has the same basic set out (just lacking some windows) they will insure as a car. They did offer to transfer my policy to a van insurer ~(gladiator) but absolutely no mods allowed and would be a bit more pricey.

I am going to see a few 90 hardtops tomorrow to see if my gear would fit in. I am hoping it will as all of the specialist insurers that will allow mods on a 110 hard top are way expensive. Sureterm said it was due to me being young and living in newcastle city centre!!

Got my quote from Footman James today, £145 if unmodified (TD 110 SW), with the engine swap to 2.8 petrol, £216. Not bad I guess. Glad it wasn't van......
 
I have a quote going through NFU at the moment - They arent the quickest lot are they???

I might give footman James a call too, they werent too comptetive for my classic MG.
