Sorry ANOTHER veg oil thread..will it go well with the TD?

You don't pay VAT on food stuff. I'm not saying you should do it. If mi landy cost thousands I would think twice. It cost hundresds so I don't care...(that much).

I've run mine on a 70/30 mix with svo from tesco at £9.16 for 15 litres. If I go back to a 50/50 mix for the colder months the saving isn't worth the bother of making a special trip into tesco and ****ing around pouring it in so until veg oil goes down in price which seems unlikely at the moment I'm back on 100% diesel. Makes sense to me when you bear in mind the possibility of pump damage and the still vague situation regarding duty.

definitely, If you end up with a knackered pump, how many miles will you have to drive on veg oil to recover your loss? Quite a few I reckon. I'm working on an idea to run mine on water, I'll let you know how I get on......

thats just it, when you gotta run it 50/50 or so, and you are paying roundabout 70p a litre for the oil, then it works out you are saving 15p a litre overall (I think? or is my maths worse than i thought!).

And that isnt enough for me to want to bother ****ing about with it, spec as i have been told my lucas fuel pump dont like the veg oil anyway.

been running 300tdi on 50/50 mix for approx 3 weeks with no problems till now. thought i would change fuel and air filters and noticed oil has been leaking badly from rocker cover and the oil filter was minging in oil. i pulled dipstick to find that oil level was 3-4 milimeters above the high mark ??? i dumped some oil from the sump straight away. i had also noticed the engine has been warming quicker last week so checked coolant level and that had dropped quite a bit so i topped it up but again its dropped... so i've also got a leak now, i think its behind the water pump where it bolts to the engine. these two faults have both happened i guess roughly at the same time and since i been using the 50/50 mix.... im not that hot under the bonnet but theres something weird going on. i have now dropped back to using 100% diesel as from today as im also finding it takes longer to fire up in the mornings... i live in cornwall and the temp here aint too bad. could the veg oil be finding its way to the sump in some way ? would the increased oil pressure cause the water leak as im sure they're related ? would like to fit a heater kit but cant afford one right now.

I,ve jist started running 50/50 veg oil now I've got the 200 tdi fitted . since I'm a jock any saving is better than none. veg oil not going to get cheeper the price of rape seed is way up and the yanks are getting in on bio feul to, so that'll keep the price up.

I wouldnt jump to too many conclusions. If your sump level IS going up (are you certain you didn't overfill it before?) then there is definitely something amiss. I would be concerned about the water loss more than anything. I recently had a problem and it took ages to find, the leak was in the seam of the expansion tank. I think you are right to stop using veg oil until you know whats going on. Some of the experts on here like CharlesY will help a lot more no doubt.

just need to get some info on the Mitsubishi shogun engine 4M40 2.8ltr turbo, Stanton 4x4 fit these into P38s, could you help me in finding someone who has one and does it perform, i have only Stantons word at the moment.

Hi Revjames, never heard of that engine for a p38 conversion, stanton have done 154 conversions in the p38, but i have to admit that the shogun 2.8 seem to go very well, they fitted these in the classic aswell.
I had a diesel conversion done by a company called Coastal engineering which turned out a disaster, they used the LD28 6cyl engine, NO power or fuel boost, i was hoping someone might of said that they knew someone who had it done or who had heard stuff. The engine has the mechanical pump, not electronic

on start up, some fuel finds it way past the rings and into the sump . diesel just evaporates off but veg il doesnt. the lucas pump should not be run on veg as the rotor vanes are graphite and break easily. bosch are ok as they are steel. shogun 2.8 converts well with the elsbett kit. lots of money but a proper kit with new nozzles, glow plugs etc..

Hi redhead, Ihad some bad news today, my Range Rover is capoot, gearbox and cluch needed, then it was only fineing on 6 cils, they got it going on 8 with new plugs leads, and the engine started to knock a bit.
But the good news i think??, is that there was a guy who had jest had his Disco td 2.5, moted said he may be interested in my RR,
So the mecs told me that his disco was for sale, and that is was a good one.
And he may take it in part ex.

So my wife and I went with our son, to see the guy with the disco.
IT is an L REG, AND HE TOOK THE RR IN PART EX, WE ONLY LOST £200 ON THE RR, But the disco is far better condition.
