Hi Lads,

So heres a strange on for you. is there an off the shelf snow plow for a defender or 4x4? just wondering if something like that exists? i live in a rural area and if the price was right it could be a handy tool to have in the shed. i just moved house over the summer and this place had a couple feet of snow last year and i think its due here again this year the way things have happened over the last few years.

They do exist - sometimes they come up second-hand on ebay but for new ones check the classifieds in the back of Tractor and Machinery and/or Farmers Weekly and/or Shooting Times and/or Horse and Hound and similar magazines, they tend to advertise nearer winter. They aren`t cheap though. Don`t just look for plows to fit a Defender - they are manufactured generically for small 4x4`s and other motive power units (skid steers etc), only the mounting brackets differ - the ads are targeted at particular users - farmers, commercial shoots, livery yards rather than drivers of particular vehicles
 
The best option is look for the ex ministry (WD) plows, as they were built to do the job , not at a price to make a profit. The plow as shown in the landrover finder link is very light duty , eg your driveway , or small parking area , they bend dramatically if you get it wrong and catch an end on something fairly rigid. The price of plows has rocketed , to give you ideas etc as to spec needed try this forum (its US based) have a good read , and then if you have any questions they are pretty helpful. On a 110 (forget90) you need to fit HD front springs, and weld brackets to chassis rail under footwell area to take push bars, if the plough does not have this then they are not a serious unit , and you risk damage to front of chassis if you hit something eg high kerb .You will also need to ballast rear body for a decent build plow. You need to be thinking budget at least £2500 s/h for s omething really usable. HTSH
 
Typical non L-R informed info in the gumpf. Fender, Disco 1's, RR classic frontend all the look the same to me when I'm welding them up. No way I'd want to snow-plough using my fender, the heater is so bad I'd freeze if I went ploughing the huge 1" snowdrifts that block the M27.
 
Bollocks to them all, snow didnt bother the 110 last year and hopefully will be the same in the 90 this year. It was funny watching the 3&5 series cocks (sorry drivers) trying to get up a slightly slushy slip road.

Anyway OP if you plough the road you wont get any beer money for towing folk out of the hedges :D ;)

They'd never get type approval to fit em on uk trains. If the snow plough wuz to hit a pedestrian who just happened to be out for a stroll in the middle of a 20ft deep snow drift it could injure them. We'd have to fit a modified version to our trains......
