Hi guys

Its payday on Friday and going to order one of these off ebay 311309078749 and one of these aswell 171115899902, as reguards this air filter can i use it and do away with my original air filter for good and keep the new filter clean, the reason i ask this is because my 90 originally a 2.5TD but converted at some point to a defender 200TDI who ever fitted the engine fitted the air filter in a bad spot always needs to be removed to do anything on that side of the engine.

what do you think, will post pic's later :)

Have you seen waterboarding , coz its similar to putting that sock thing on the snorkle when it rains , what a barmy idea . If you want a thing on top of a snorkle use a cyclonic prefilter .

I think those filter socks are designed for areas that are very dry and dusty with lots of airborne dust particles that can cause chaos and mean you constantly need to change your filters (i'm talking Africa, Australian outback, Morocco etc etc..)

If you're in the UK, we have pretty superb air-quality and extremely low levels of airborne pollutants, hence why air-filter replacements aren't needed very often. Like tacr2man said, get it wet and you may have a big issue with suction unless it has been designed in a way to handle the effect of water (which they will probably have thought of), but my advice is, if you're in the UK, there is no need for it. Just a basic mesh to stop BIG dirt, rocks, birds etc etc from getting in.

Do you mean a snorkle or the sock thing ? and where are you operating ?

The cyclonic filters - notice your forum name is a familiar 6 wheel blast from a bygone era.

Yes had the cyclonic on the tender in Australia as well . You picked that right owned one for about 3 years

It was a good piece of kit , went well but had a hell of a thirst . After converting my 110 to diesel , it would have made a good conversion for the tacr as well plus would have about doubled the mpg :)
Never got to use it other than filling steam engines , converted 1 foam branch to a taskforce , and had it fully kitted + a couple of additions .
Another little quirk was it ate tyres on the third axle.
How did you rate it in service ?

Dude,

We are miles off topic now and are at risk of hijacking the Rattler's thread. Be interesting to see if the main air filter could be replaced or modes as it is a pain in its natural position.

Pm me about TACRs, saddest day of career when they changed fleet to current boat engined ****e

Back on topic , I have no filter under bonnet , my snorkle tube goes up to a donaldson mounted on front of roof rack with a ram scoop on top

The one you had would be a smaller version as these are quite big not a lot of room for engine and these underbonnet :)

Apparently these air filters that fit inside the snorkel head are waterproof or can be made waterproof and they are a good filter aswell, lots of peeps run them without a normal air filter and just use these as they are easy to clean aswell.
