Hi ya,
I have an old Series 2 with a 2.0 diesel (not the 2.25) and the old boy has started to puff a bit out of his dipstick. I am a little concerned that this would be a piston ring or something of that nature.
The engine was rebuilt about 6 years ago by a specialist, but he is used often on the farm for the proper duties of a land rover, not spared a good life of work dispite his age.
,
In terms of running, he runs fine, slow as usual, dark and smokey on cold start (but that has always been the case). Not much smoke on warm idling, though he still puffs lighter smoke. When hot, starts almost before you turn the key.
I had some issues with leaky freeze plugs a while back and also a leaky radiator, replaced the freeze plugs and the radiator. Water levels stays normal, no overheating and no major issues on oil consumption.
Just wondering if you have any thoughts on it. I honestly would not have even noticed any differences, had it not been the puffy dipstick. Let's say they are not the most refined diesels
.
Thanks all!
