Did you do each 'tweak' then take it for a test run ?

So you know which is giving the problem ...

Read the links given in the OPs post #4 ... it'll explain what does what and why ...

I blanked the Egr and that made a noticeable difference, then I did the de-cat and it didn't make any difference at all but when I opened the cat up to have a look it seemed fairly new.

Here's some of the info I looked at

How To Increase The Performance Of Your 200/300tdi - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

when I'm back home on Friday I'll take some pics so people know what to fiddle with.

The things I didn't do are the full power adjustment on the back of the pump (aparently this will give a big power increase but will use more fuel) and I didn't alter the boost on the turbo,I was going to but the results from the pump tweek are a big improvement so I've left that alone.

I have done these mods today, which seem to have helped when the car is up to speed (ie. when you are going 30mph in 3rd and boot it, it picks up better than before) but there is now a massive flat spot when say exiting a roundabout in 3rd it takes ages to pick up any speed. Which alteration does it sound as if I need to change??

Cheers

The one on the top of the pump increases the amount of fuel at low boost so could be that that's causing the problem, did you turn it clockwise to increase fuel?

Have read this thread from its start, over 2 years ago, to its end yesterday and will be performing the mods on my 300 Tdi manual asap. In the mean time I am curious as to the mpg changes the various members have experienced over the 2 years.

I adjusted my smoke screw and it made little affect, i turned my diaphram slightly an it made a difference, but when i am between 2,500 -3,000 k revs it makes a strange sort of howling noise, anyone any ideas?

Thanks

I have turned that clockwise about half a turn so far. Will try another quater tomorrow and see how it performs.

I have my issue solved, tensioner pulley bearin is absolutly fooked, so it was just a coincidence, back up with the adjustments :)

I did all these adjustments when i fitted my full width intercooler, and on standard 70 series disco tyres it would spin the wheels on take off :)
After changing to taller 85 series tyres it won't spin the wheels, but even with a heavy ish right foot i'm still seeing 28-30 mpg on the "urban" cycle, low 30's on a run, which to me isn't too bad when you consider it weighs over 2 tons.

just done it to mine today, its like driving a different motor, throttle feels more responsive and i can pull out of junctions in safety now......

not gone all the way though,

1.5 turns of the first bolt.
half a turn of the spider wheel
half a turn of the diaphram

no smoke and as is very well, thanks for the guide too!!! perfect is this!!

Just done mine this afternoon.

1.5 turns on top bolt
one turn on spider wheel
just past 90 degrees on diaphragm

No smoke and a definite improvement in performance. I'm often sceptical about small mods like this, often any improvement seems to be down to the placebo effect. But there is a definite improvement here!

Thank you for the guide, V8jon!

No problem, enjoy the extra power :)

right been running fine for a while now, but iv just started to get more black smoke under harsh acceleration, usually from the off,

my problem is the pad i had with my notes got a tad wet so cant actually read how much i tweeked it, is there a way to reset it back (measuring etc) or which one could poss stop the black smoke, is it over fuelling?
