Disco 2 SLS sensor location.

I’ve been gathering parts to return my ‘04 ES Premium to air on the rear after a previous owner replaced them with springs. I’m not interested in the spring/air discussions, I want it back on air for the self levelling for when I load it up.

When I went to replace the sensors I realised that when I’ve had the damper mounts repaired, the people doing the work have just removed the SLS ride height sensors as it is on springs...

I’m planning on either drilling and tapping new threads or perhaps just rivnuts.

How accurately do the sensors have to be located? I’ve got a nanocom to sort the ride height so do the sensors just need to be “in the rough area” or do they need to be millimetre perfect? Does anyone have/can anyone make a template for the holes?

They dont have to be perfect cos any small difference can be calibrated, find a way to fit them in the same place and you'll be OK, read first page of this https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/ride-height-sensor-chassis-bracket.333872/

I didnt know but i measured now and edited a pic copied from the web, the red line is 40mm, the rest is up to you as to be able to fit the sensor in there

I made my own for the exact reason you are. They had been cut off by the previous owner. I did have another d2 to kinda measure off, but I didn't put too much effort into getting them perfect as sierra said there is quite a wide calibration range, to my surprise though I got them absolutely perfect reading within +-1 of each other Sensors sit snug in mine between the chassis and bracket (I bent some galv sheet metal into the shape of the old one and used the new sensor as a template to drill the holes) It worked out rather simple to do.
