New starter about 5 months ago. Loads of earth leads connecting all that should. Used to give it one lot of heat and it started fine. Now I often just get a "whumpf" and engine doesn't turn. Couple more heats and then it goes. All leads seem tight and fine. About 14.5 volts when running and 11.5-12 before turning key. Battery about 2 years old.

Any suggestions??

You mean it doesnt turn at all? I.e. the solenoid throws, but then doesn't turn.

If so, I'd say your new starter is a dud.

If the starter does turn the engine reliably but doesn't start, then check your red wire also. Of course it could need a bit more heat because it's so friggin cold (poxy weather).

Red lead going onto the solenoid, make sure she's got good connection...
If it's not the starter maybe check your glow plugs are all still working??

All sorted thanks, see my other thread. I had a current drain. 0.26 amps to the damn radio! Disconnected and a good drive and it turns over fine now!
