My inners are rather a mess, and likely to fail. Given that the heap is a long term prospect I am considering a complete cut off and box section replacement. I am thinking its likely not much different cost wise from lots of patching, and should be much longer lasting and cheaper long term, no new plates here & there every year

Which leads on the questions...

What size/gauge do folks recommend?

Is there anyone round near me who can do the job for suitable recompense? I don't have a welder and never got opportunity to learn, much more a power & drivetrain person rather than body myself

If your in it for the long term i'd recommend getting a welder and doing it yourself. You've offset the cost of the welder by saving on labour charges plus you've learnt a new skill. I used 3mm thick 100x60 for mine. There's loads of info floating about on here if you do a search though.

That unfortunately is a time/space thing at the moment.

It is my intention to learn to weld, but where I currently have to park, there is not a lot of safe space to work. Think oil saturated surface and cardboard, and next doors RRSport often parked within inches! (less said about the pizza bikes and people who can't walk an extra 20 feet to the chip shop/kwik fit the better) Test date is also an issue, I am not convinced even if I had the space I could do a satisfactory job in the time available.

I may just have to bite the bullet and pay through the nose this year.
