i got in touch with richards chassis with the intension of getting an ungalved chassis from them hoping to get a couple of hundred quid knocked off, but all he would drop the price was 85 quid.
does anybody advertise they do ungalved chassis, there used to be a couple of firms years ago which offered both options with a fair difference in price.
it would be nice if i could get a bare steel one 2-3 hundred quid cheaper.

Richards do them for £1200 'cash' I couldn't say no to £200 off as it's a fair whack to me.
You could try designa chassis for ungalved one. Unless you already have that is.

hi aaron, only spoke to richards as iam not in the position to buy one at the moment. i thought while they were delivering to us for galvanising, they might as well drop me one off and dipped same time as theirs. we can dip 6 at a time.
its a bugger when they come in as its my job to jig em up, and i have to look longingly as they get de-jigged and go back:(

Ah, fair enough mate. Was just a thought as Designa are only in Doncaster as well.
I would have thought they would give you more discount than that too :(
Hopefully you'll be jigging some of my stuff up later this year :p

Sounds good to me bud :) Be good to have a chat, and with someone who knows what they're doing and can advise a little.
I'll be a while before I even start getting it ready properly anyway. I.e summer when it's warmed up a bit

Thinking I've got a tub in the back yard, so get cappings and floor supports done.
Also got an old bulkhead that wants repairing, so I wouldn't mind doing that.
Got loads of other odd brackets kicking about that would come in handy too.
And then no doubt I wont be able to resist another project. Wouldn't mind galv 'everything' :behindsofa:
Or within reason. As I've said, not really sure what is and isn't viable.

well i mentioned earlier that i havnt seen any bulkheads go through our bath, well today 2 went through.

i asked the guy who prices stuff up how much, -
2 bulkheads
2 inner wheel arches
2 tree sliders
various brackets, 180 quid.
dont think thats bad.

I rang up the other day, £250 +vat for acid dipping (or whatever she said) and galv, then £15 each way for delivery so not worth trying to save 2-300 on a new chassis if it's gonna cost that to galv yourself.

That sounds pretty good. There's a galvanisers near us but they don't do acid dipping it seems, so need to get it shot blasted first, which again they don't do but put you in touch with someone who charged £50 for a bulkhead.

Galvanising was then based on weight - which I didn't know how heavy a bulkhead would be - but was guessing no less than 50kg, so would be £95 for galvanising

what company did you ring?
acid dip is to remove rust prior to dipping.

i do all my own galvanising, so it dont cost anything lol.:p:p so a saving of 2-3 hundred for me is a decent saving.:clap2:

seems a little strange they dont do acid dipping first, even after shotblasting rust can start and galv wont take to rust or grease or paint, it just burns off in the bath leaving a mess and ungalved areas.

Your place, Joseph Ash.

should have asked for a guy called phil, he prices all the smaller jobs, depends on what it is, he can give you a price rather than on weight. if you spoke to one of the girls in the office you might have got a min weight price.

It seemed an ok price from a large company but I would like a more 'bring it on a Saturday morning n it will be £100 cash' sort of response. I need to pay to have it blasted aswell which puts it up even more so it will have to wait a while.

Finally got round to fitting the sliders I had galvanised. Look good and decided to leave silver.

Well this thread has really got me thinking about this galvanizing lark again :D
First thing to do was try and find a shot blaster locally, which to be honest seem very thin on the ground around here.
Found someone about 12 miles away and he said £40-50 to blast a bulkhead, (as this is my next project)
But I don't know if that's good/bad or just the going rate.
Anyone else had anything blasted recently who can give me an idea?

hi aaron, when iam back at work monday ill ask phil re sand blast, hes got a chap he knows, said if i used him he would first put a word in for me.
ill ask him for his details and let you know.

oh and iam seriosly thinking about nipping back to work about 3 am and nicking the 2 galved bulkheads sat on the yard:eek:

I dropped some stuff off for shot blasting last week. Front and rear axles with diff still attached, 4 back plates and 4 spring mounts. They wanted £30 per axle whick I though was pretty decent, I didn't ask how much for the smaller stuff but it won't be much. It would of took me hours with the grinder and I wouldn't be able to get in all the cracks and under the brackets

Wana sell one :D :p
And cheers bud, much appreciated, no rush got plenty to be getting on with anyhow.
Been sorting shed/sheds and garage out most of the weekend. Didn't get vary far

Yep, know exactly what you mean with the grinder, but it's how I usually do it, as always have more time than money, but I want to send the bulkhead for galv and the paint needs to come off. No chance of getting everywhere by hand/grinder etc.
Your price seems similar to mine, so maybe it's not bad. Think I'll get a price for some other stuff while I'm at it too.
