Yes. Use to be able to buy them pre made but I think I got the last ones. Mantec had a set left over who sold them to flatdog and they were going to make some. Might be worth ringing them and seeing if they ever did?

Or you could make your own?
 
Just what i have seen on ebay i would like some proper rock sliders look ace but not paying arm and leg for them may have a go at making some where abouts do they fasten on?
 
They need to be drilled and riveted, which is just asking for rust in the sills imho.

Mantec ones were circa 80 quid, there was some on eBay the other day, black pair, brand new

Get some chequer plate, 3-4mm, get it bent to match the sills (best off getting a place with a proper machine to do it), then paint them, but by the time you do this, you could've got the Mantec ones for a similar price with all the fixings and a template.

Only chequer plate I have lying around is 6mm and wayyyy to heavy for what you need so can't help there.
 
I got a new pair (nearly half price) of Mantec Sill protectors fitted by a LR specialist, which was lucky as they said it was a bit of hassle to fit them as the 'fit' is not that good.

E.g. the top horizontal plane (left to right) under the doors needs to be filled in further, e.g. 'sealed' as there's a small gap where grit and muck can get in.

The sill protectors also came with the incorrect rivets and dried up adhesive in the pack (great) so the garage had to use silver ones, not black (not so great). I think it looks ok though. From what I could see, a 'normal' garage wouldn't attempt the work. You have to have some experience.

I don't know if the imperfect fit, if that's a design fault by Mantec or my fault for not knowing if there's a 3dr version and 5dr version of the sills. (Advert didn't say so I didn't know).

Another thing to remember, is the Mantec guards, in my view, don't look finished in terms of making it look 'off road'. There's a bit of body work left unprotected, the part in-front of the front doors. That would look good with a bit of custom cut chequer plate though, dropping hints there... :drum:

The problem with a bit of extended chequer plate is finding a company to make it for you, and stick it to your car without it falling off!

i completely agree with everything you say there. They did look a little short and there was a slight gap (depending how you put them on)
I used a thick bead of silicone around the outside the inside hopefully keep the water out. I too have silver rivets for the top and bolts for the bottom but i am a little dissapointed that the black paint has faded already.

Saying all that, i am still happy that i brought them :)


oh and there isnt a difference beteween 3+5 door sills
 
Thanks for the info that I didn't order the wrong size. So it's just not a good fit then. :p

Here's a quick 2 min drawing of how it could look (3 versions in style) if we could find someone to make us a job lot of chequer plate to extend the Mantec sill protector.

The problem is I reckon, how you 'bend' it, to conform to the bodyshell. I imagine you need a 'donor' car to get the angles correct when bending the metal with a machine.

I have no idea how it would be fabricated, or the cost.

They're short so that you can still remove the front wing with them fitted, but yes, they're not bent the best (I saw a set a while ago)

I considered making them, but as Mantec found, they don't sell enough of them to make it worthwhile
