I got offered this Series 3 (??) 88 Pick-Up
that was used as recovery truck.

Price is good but concerns are:
- They put a Toyota diesel engine years ago
- I imagine the chassis was modified/reinforced in order to handle the weight from the mini crane?

Pass or smash?

Look like a S2a bulkhead and dash set up?
If the price is as you say good, then buy it and have some fun.

it would come to around 4000€, digging around I was told in case of a future resell it would have less appeal not having a LR engine

I wouldn't overly worry. When it has a recovery crane attached folk are less worried about "out of the box" originality.

Yes there are some purists who complian if you've changed a rivet. Personally i wouldn't worry too much if it has a non LR engine fitted IF, the conversion works well.
I'm currently going through this dilemma myself. What to do with my 101? Keep the original V8 or replace it with something that'll give double digit fuel economy...
