Hello,

I have a rear door for my 90 that could do with shot blasting to get rid of the existing scabby paint / slight corrosion. Does any body have a rough guide price as to how much it is likely to cost for such a service? Just a blast and then possibly a quick primer spray / dip.

Thanks,
-Tom

you need to be careful as doors and body work on landies often stretches when blasted, with it been thin aliminum ,often flatting with da and using small spray gun sized blaster with glass bead for frame is best ive found

Ta for that. I might just give it a whirl with a wire brush in drill

Pos, when I lived at York I had a chap near weatherby blast some bits. He works at one of the industrial estates in an old ammunition bunker and did a top job.

Ahh right, I'll have a look. There are some people just down the road from me but I was just after a rough figure. I will give them a call tomorrow and ask.

Cheers,

Place near me do it for about £30 but its probably best to do yourself POS. I got quoted £10 a wheel and i decided to spend a day in the garden with various tools of persuasion...

I've sourced a few sanding disks, a jar of cellulose thinners, a sharp pointy thing and I plan on totally destroying my hands scraping all the old paint off!

A bit late to the party Tom, but Poly discs are really good for what you need to do.

They are made of a nylon material (bit like a scouring pad) and look like this

Pack of 3 Polycarbide abrasive wheesl 100mm x 6mm shank poly rust remover disc | eBay

B&Q stock (but more like £6 for one!)

Found they remove paint quickly, but do less damage to the surface underneath than traditional sanding discs

Corr they look nice and aggressive! Do they have any flex / give in them and do you have any idea what kind of mileage I might be able to get from them? I'm all in for ordering a set if they're up to the job. I'm just thinking that they might wear down very very quickly.

Thanks,
-Tom

Have a bit of flex, but not too much.

Also they are more gentle in use, but seem to be good at cutting through material at the same time

Only ever used for patch sanding and removing filler etc or paint on windows (wooden variety!) and seem to last pretty well. Would have thought 2 discs would see you OK

Had my last one about 5 months now, and still going strong

Only ever bought from B&Q one at a time, so couldn't comment on whether the ebay ones are the same in terms of life - was just the only picture I could find first thing this morning!

Nice one thank you. I might go and pay my local handy man store a visit tomorrow. He stocks almost everything and he's a lot cheaper than B&Q etc. If he doesn't have any, I'll buy some from eBay. They do look ideal for getting the lumpy, flaky chunks of paint out of the seams on my door.
