Series Landies Towing Mad Stuff

The "best" period correct trailer is a Sankey, but the problem with them is that they have the NATO hitch and are set to the hieght of the mil chassis (ie 2" lift). They are seriously well made and despite costing a good £400 or so for a reasonble one are well worth the money as they will last forever. Mine is 1966 (they are all plated which is handy if you plan to tow on the continent) and it tows really well. Same wheel studs as Series so you can share a spare wheel. They are plated as 3/4 ton but that is cross country, they easily carry a std 1m3 bulk water tank which is rougthly a ton. They come in "narrow" and "wide", thee are lots of small differnces but the main one is the narrow doesn't have a tail gate - unless you make one as I did. Without a tail gate they are very high for loading.

For those that don’t know, and I didn’t, Brockhouse made armourments during the war and became at something of a loose end when we won peace.
The series one had just been released on to the expectant public and Brockhouse began making a collection of trailers specifically for Land Rovers. Indeed you could order one through your dealer. The run was counted in the thousands rather than millions so they are very rare nowerdays and fetch something of a premium.

I have taken an angle grinder to mine as I although I offered a straight swap for something less historic, no body wanted it.

If you ever come across an old, often advertised as a builders trailer, lump of rot. Have a look at the little bump stop under the hitch.

Thanks for that tip, will be looking at every old trailer from now on! I do like the Brockhouse its smaller and the right hieght for a Civvy series, but for a mil series I still think the Sankey is best, or the Rapier with the fiendishly expensive loading suspension.

I have my eye out for two of the vintage marker triangles for mine when its finished. The ones with the beads rather than the plastic reflector. I have seen a few but not for my target price :oops:

I was just looking for something with leaf suspension to match the heap with the same wheels. The Brockhouse came up for eighty quid so I took it. Had no idea about them till I researched for parts.

I've got some old 70s triangle reflectors if they're any good to us ya. Not bead ones though plastic

Go to the motorway & get the cats eyes.

(Quick funny story... used to have poachers so we would place gnomes with cats eyes affixed in places so when the light hits them they got shot. Got through some gnomes:))
