I'm egg-sited now!

Just ordered the bits from Exhaust Parts UK. I spoke to Manni and he was most helpful. They're going to custom make me an 8" long x 6" diameter straight through silencer, mated up to two 90 degree mandrel curves and a stylish flared tail-pipe. And he threw in a couple of clamps so I can mount the silencer on the inner wing.

Photos should be forthcoming when we fit it on Thursday afternoon... :D

Is it a pick up? You could stick something like lorry exhaust stacks on it then, that'd make a noise :)

The one you're going to make should sound nice too though :)

So the bits arrived today and we went for it. I bottled slightly and came out under the sill - I thought I would see how it is before cutting a hole in the wing and I think I might be glad of the decision...

First off the old downpipe had to come off the manifold. As you might tell from the photo we though we might have difficulty getting the nuts off - the stud threads were a little corroded. As it was there was not a problem - cracked them before applying some penetrating oil (I'd also put on a couple of applications earlier in the day.

And the nuts off...

The exhaust clamp wasn't quite so yielding - but it succumbed to the angle grinder:

And the first starting on YouTube - excuse the smoke, she calms down once warmed up.

Although not too loud outside, nice and throaty - and I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect but she does seem to be moving quicker - it is a bit too boooomy in the cab. Probably something to do with the exhaust exiting right by the passenger door.

So... Plan B. Cut a hole through the front n/s out-rigger, weld a tube in the resulting hole to strengthen it back up and pass the exhaust through that and out through a panel further back. Probably moving the silencer out of the wheel arch too. I'm going to have a look now and see if I can suss out a route...

Proper job

It would be if it wasn't frickin' deafening me! Just drove in to town (8 mile round trip up and down hills) and it is pretty loud under load!

Had a look underneath and I'm a bit stumped on the re-route options. I'm wondering how small a hole I can get away with through an outrigger to allow the 50mm exhaust pipe to pass through without it knocking but allowing enough movement not to to damage the exhaust, if you get me...
