Seized hub nut - heat it?

Trying to do the drive shaft oil seals on my disco two, as always it’s a mission!

Hub nut won’t budge, it doesn’t look like it has been staked by whoever put it on so I don’t think it’s that.

Breaker, jack under breaker, hitting socket with a mallet, running out of options.

If I get the torch on it and heat it will I b*gger up anyththing else in the hub like the bearings and all that?

Or my only other option is to try and drill and split the nut, but access is limited by the raised crown bit on the hub.

I’m open to suggestions.

Longer lever - stick a scaff pole on the breaker!

3/4" breaker with scaff pole (1/2" may well snap), or a really good impact wrench able to cope with > 400NM. Good quality rechargeable ones are light and small, but expensive; alternatively mains powered ones are more powerful and start at around £60, but are less useful when access is restricted.

Torque multiplier, or heavy duty Impact wrench (I now have both!!)
It amazed me how easily it took mine off after I'd snapped a 3/4 breaker bar.

3/4" breaker with scaff tube, touching or near the ground in direction of travel, then 1st or reverse gear depending on which side you are doing and drive slowly off...

Mine came off with a 1/2" breaker and an old trampoline pole over it (it was bending like fook without it) then I stood on it and it cracked the nut.
Edit- don't forget to put the wheel back on before trying the above...

I’m in the worlds of Wiltshire.

Funny enough I had a look at some impact wrenches today whilst I was out, can’t afford til payday lol!

If you use a breaker bar, then support the extension bar on an axle stand , it makes applying the torque to undo it a little more controlled.

Right I’ve got seven feet of scaf pole from my mates garden, this will not defeat me lol!

I’ll give it a nudge with the 1/2 inch breaker, if it snaps it will be 3/4 inch time on payday.

I hope you are using a 6 sided socket as well.

If you have problems keeping the socket on the nut with a long breaker + scaff get a helper to lie on their back and push the socket on with their foot.

Yep, I’ve hear not to use the ones with more sides with a lot of torque. I imagine it’s to spread the load force over the whole side rather than just the corners? (Go easy on the noob if I’m wrong lol).

I might have a chat with the head of motor vehicle at the college I work at, see if he will lend me a 3/4 bar and socket. You have me worrying now with mental images of snapping bars and flying shrapnel eeeeek.

Just hold it half way down it’s length, work your way along the pole until something gives.

I've not long snapped a snap on 1/2 breaker bar removing wheel nuts id be very surprized if your bar survives this
3/4" set took them off without an issue id wait until you have a decent tool for the job.
