I was speaking to someone with insight into JLR who knew something of the new Defender. The comment that was interesting was to think in terms of new Mini v the old Mini. It sounds like it there will be a 'utility' version/versions as well. How accurate that is remains to be seen.

I’d have preferred it if LR had left a gap of just a few months between the old and the new as well. A 5 year gap is inexplicable.

Usual JLR situation- poor management, missed targets and lack of clear decision-making led to the old Defender running out of time before the new one was close to ready. Originally it was planned for 2015MY...

There is a Defender announced for 2020 and I have seen several in-depth video reviews of it on Internet. So on the positive side your petition worked. On the negative side it looks nothing like a LR or a Defender.
