He wants to use it for our European trip next year, so plenty of time, but the body needs to be done and sealed before winter sets in.

You can do lots of work inside, but it has to be dry and with a small heater you can be surprisingly comfortable while working.

The big trailer was way too big to heat at the time we built it, but we were exceptionally lucky with the weather in spring 2011.

Big hiatus......

Lots of things going tits up in the medical line: After my heart operation I had an irregular heartbeat so I was put on Warfarin to thin my blood in preparation for a Cardioversion, where they apply an electric shock across the chest and heart to bring the heartbeat back into a normal rhythm.

In the meantime, a lump in my left breast turns out to be breast cancer, so I now have two lots of things on the go!

The cardioversion was cancelled last week due to excess fluid round my heart, but I did get the CT scan done for the Cancer operation, for which I have already had the pre-op meeting with the breast unit nurses.

On the Sankey, work has carried on where the weather allows, the rest of the extrusions are here and the floor is now cut and shaped to fit the chassis.

I'll bring my camera up on a non-windy/wet day and take some more pictures.

Good luck with the zapping and the CT results ...

Appointment for the anaesthetist for the cancer operation on Friday morning, closely followed by the Cardioversion on Friday afternoon, so someone has pushed the 'GO' button!

More has been done; the side raves are cut and fitted, the side body panel sheets are ordered and will be delivered by Aalco on Monday next, that's £591 for two sheets :(

The aluminium corner panels for the bevelled front are here, and the floor will be finally fixed down to the chassis this weekend.

Hoping to get the main body sides and front erected before Xmas, weather permitting. Roof beams will be ordered before Xmas, standard top hat section, cant rail extrusion also needs to be bought, then the roof can be put on and the insides started.

There's a lot of margin in the consumer market!

Anything for motorhomes, caravans etc is always marked up to as much as the market will stand.

Propex heater is about £480 unless you buy used. Truma water heater more than that, Philip bought a used one for £80. The body materials will be about £1800 for panels, extrusions, stainless steel bolts etc. Cooker we have a Calor twin burner unit with grill and oven from our caravanning days, so Phil will probably use that unless we can pick up a better one cheaply.

Gas tank and fittings were £200+

Soon adds up.

Great thread Peter. Love to see this kind of work being thought out and carried through. Hope your health picks up; my dad is looking to have his 3rd cardioversion done in the New Year.

Just to reiterate: this is Philip's trailer build, not mine!

He is doing the work, I'm just helping out and giving advice, having built our big 6-wheel drawbar turntable trailer in 2011.

More today, although it's blowing a gale outside, fortunately the forecast heavy rain hasn't shown up.

Work today is notching the corner posts into the frame behind the triangles:
