The problem is I don't have a lt77 either as jai took it off my hands.
The other problem is I am trying to do this conversion so it looks like it came out the factory like it! So the gearbox X beam has to be mounted in one place for bolts to line up! Can weld in place incase gearbox or clutch give up (it will be a nightmare to change).
Really peed off as the rest looks pucca

True the difference between them isn't great. A guy we know has a genuine 300HP comp safari racer and it eats gearboxes 3rd gear isn't much cop on either gearbox. Auto would probably help but manual its a tough one for a comp motor LT95 is kin strong but heavy. needs modification to fit a series tranny box and ideally be a 101 short bell housing version to get the engine back. Working on it and one day I'll get there. Not interested in lt77's or R380's TBH rarther have a series box on a comp motor.

Road car is different.

lt77 and r380 are both boxes designed for speed,lt 95 like salsbury axle has gears 3 times the size ,why wouldnt you use its own t/box series box would be a weak link ?

The LT77 was for Bevhalee as a spare to trade in with ascrofts but he sorted it himself. Its probably kicking around here somwhere. I was keeping it to trade in with ashcrofts next time I want a gearbox but its looking likley that the tooling to rebuild properly is slowly being made. Had a few unfortunate problems with Ashcroft boxes in previous years but everyone else that does them seem to feck them right up.

I am about to weigh in 6 old LT77's disco ones are worthless swap out another good one for 2 LT95's.

Series Tranny box is light can be made strong we remove the selectable 4WD and replace it with a solid shaft between output prop flanges. I have seen 2 since I was about young coupled to Auto boxes these have been raced/Trialed/Team recovery every year for 15 years blown up many 4 pin diffs and pinned crownwheels and the tranny boxes has taken all the abuse. I guess you can argue that the auto takes the stress out but they have done extremly well. IMO They have been serviced and maintained well.

Ashcroft never sorted it for me! Mine was out of warranty by a month and 2nd and 3rd gear were simultaniously selected. This was driving on road aswell. When I phoned they said sorry out of warrannty and it will be X per hour to fix plus parts.

My current recon gearbox came with a cracked top housing ****ing out oil everywhere took it back to them to fix, well not them an approved garage they tried to smear silicone over it. I was not happy! So I brought in another housing and got him to fit that. I think they have sussed out everything now everything since has been good. Can't knock their shafts diffs etc.

Phil got a bit of discount and he traded in your old gearbox because it was a genuine defender version got some cash off. They sorted him out which was fair enough but he spent time off work with no car which wasn't good.

I'm not 100 I've still got it done far too many trades last couple of weeks. Ideally you want to swap over to defender stuff that way the engine position will remain as std as possible for a 300

Right I'm off I have a Roll cage to remove and wire brush down before painting Refitting.

Sible you have my number if you need owt. P.s on the axle I need an early 90 axle and RRC axle ideally 1983-86 I think (Can't remember exactly) to make one strong one. I'm sure the disco 300 is no good to me unfortunatly
