In that case, your problem is the viscous fan and when the engine is hot they do make a lot of noise when revved. Is that on idle? I can't hear mine on idle it's just when accelerating/ revving.
Yep just the one large fan in the centre behind the grill...It's probaly just windmilling with the airflow from the viscous, on full speed they sound really loud, is it just one fan on yours, it certainly is on the diesel?
It's unlikely that the electric fan was cutting in unless the weather has suddenly got hot in the UK and you had the aircon on. On the other hand if you have an overheat problem ..........................Yep just the one large fan in the centre behind the grill...
Windmilling...maybe, seemed a bit fast for that...so maybe they are variable speed and mine was just ticking over I guess.
If the VC Fan is locked up, it will make a good roar on acceleration!

It still doesn't normally run unless idling for a long time, never heard it run on mateys car, same on the P38, they never run unless it's hot outside and the car is idling for a good period.A/C on
It was after a 55 minute drive home....and the temp on Thursday was in the 24-25 region here, so stop start traffic, A/C on will no doubt start the fan to run!It still doesn't normally run unless idling for a long time, never heard it run on mateys car, same on the P38, they never run unless it's hot outside and the car is idling for a good period.
That's cos the limit is 70Morning Gents,
Not done the fan yet as I'm trying to source a cheaper used one to check it is defo that.
I do have another issue though while all the experts are in one place!. I'm pretty sure it's a coolant air lock.
I've been driving the car for almost a week now and I've driven up to North Wales. As soon as I go over 90mph the doorbell goes and it says check coolant level. I stopped at services and level was fine. Back on the motorway I stayed at 80 for ages and was fine. The minute I got up to 90 bing bong!!!! Check coolant.
Is it an airlock and when the engines going faster the water is taking longer to get back to the reservoir? The water level never changes when I check it and the temp needle doesn't go over the middle.
Could well be weak antifreeze mix as the sensor reputedly measures the specific gravity.Ha ha did I not mention I was on a private airfield somewhere outside Guildford at the time??
