I hear Land Rover are giving out brand new free Gaylanders to any Defender owner willing to give up there Defender, so far there have been no takers. In a statement from Land Rover, Lord Poncenby Gaylord (CEO Gaylander Section), said "we will be bending over backwards to make the transition from Defender to Gaylander as painless a process as possible. We know it's a slippery avenue but we run a well greased mechanism and feel Defender owners will slip into a Gaylander much like those already attracted to Gaylanders".

Its got nothing to do with emmisions all they need to do is find another engine. (Ford are stopping production of the Puma in a few years)

The whole vehicle doesnt live up to modern expectations, farmer have moved on to Discos or pick ups as they are more car like on the road but still good enough to cross a field so no one is buying the Defender. In truth they should have ditched it after the TD5 as it was a bit long in the tooth then.

The problem with the Discovery, for many of us who use our vehicles for work, is that the Disco is too car like. I have a 110, and the Missus has a Discovery, and while the Disco is a nice car to drive, there is no way I could use it for work, It is not big enough or have enough load space and payload capacity. The problem is, there is no other vehicle that can match the Defenders capabilities. Nothing has the same combination of load carrying capacity and off road ability.

Just looked up the sales figures to date for this year and surprised that the Defender is still selling well.

Defender 4475
Range Rover 4518
Range Rover Sport 5866
Discovery 6529
Freelander 11974
Range Rover Evoque 15624

So there is still definatly a market for a vehicle of that type

Of course there is, they might not be as common as the other marques but you still see quite a few of the new ones on the road. Plus all the defenders that off-road company's do up to promote their brand then ultimately sell on all seem to be new ones as well

Personally, I agree. 100%.
However, there will be those who point to the Hilux or L200 and say 'yes there is'

What say you?
B******s. Neither the L200 or the Hilux can carry as much of a payload as my 110 can. They can't carry more than 4 passengers, my 110 can carry 8. Neither of them can tow more than 2700kg, my 110 can tow 3500kg, and neither of them can match the Defender off road without modification.

Will be a very sad day indeed. The end of the one true 4x4 legend. I really do hope the new Defender is a proper 4x4. yes it wont be as true as the Current Defender but the most important thing in my opinion is having a solid / live axle. Its not a propper 4x4 without one. As much as I hate to say it, LR need to look at inspiration from the current jeep wrangler. it still portrays the original jeep but with all the modern gismos and is very, very modable.
