Repairable? quite probably, but you're going to be hard pressed to get a replacement for the black plastic middle bit on the front bumper. Now might be a good time to consider a steel replacement.
I'm not sure what the Royal Mail might think of that though.
As a matter of interest, and without compromising you're right to say it wasn't my fault, who hit whom?

A sad day it is, but it's just another shunt on the streets of inner London, I work in London but would take a car there these days.
The disco is mendable but may have been less if a steel A bar wasn't fitted.
Will we see your dash cam footage on the accident ?

I hit he Royal Mail van as it sped over a cross road. Just had the assessor round and there were a lot of things on the list. Looks like it may be a written off

Mendable - yes. But not economically so. Average value of a 52 plate D2? £3k. 40% of £3k = £1200. That won't go far........

If it's written off, you must ask for retention of landy. that way you will get your money back and be able to fix it yourself. Good luck!!!

Judging by the pictures it looks like there might be some deformation of the front of the chassis where that "A" bar is fitted, rather that letting the crash cans and the bonnet take the impact.

The mods are declared so the chap said look for similar and get several valuations to negotiate. I'm at a cross roads though as if it's written off and I keep it and salvage parts I need to buy another disco 2 with all its hidden problems. Also problems of where to keep it (I'm central London)
On the plus side I could buy it scrap, sell the mods and buy a Land Rover Perentie!
It has however many weeks of work in it and also sentimental value as it took me from London to the Sahara and back

Where are you looking ? I heard that the OZ Military were getting rid of a load since then I keep getting this idea of getting one , should be a good buy if you can get a decent one.

If they do write it off, get a breakdown of the parts they think are needed - when mine got written off I found parts on the estimate that weren't damaged and yet the bent rear axle wasn't even mentioned! The guy later admitted they hadn't gone into detail, so really they'd written it off as it came in the door. Oh, and they got the parts prices from the main dealer.....

Not surprised if its a Cat D. Seen many on Copart with similar damage.
You could buy it back from the insurance co, fix it and either sell it or keep it. (if you have space or storage) I use a 20 ft shipping container as my workshop.
Cat D doesn't have much/any effect on re-insurance cost.
