So - Mansfield have sent me out new stainless silencers - they trial fitted them first. Brilliant fit, much higher - in fact you can't now see the silencer at all when standing behind the car.

Congrats for prompt corrective work, excellent communications and well recommended. If anyone else is interested contact Ralph at Mansfield.

That's very interesting as I plan to off road my car and am concerned the silencer will catch. Any chance you could post a few pics to show how it now fits please.

Thanks

They claim it has a raspy sound. Does it?
raspiness starts @ about 2800-3000 rpm pedal to the foor ..
sounds better below those rpm ..
( unless you like the raspy spectrum )
exhaust note sounds strongest at 1500 rpm .. then again at 3000 rpm
( well .. mine does .. i've still got the cat 'n middle box on )

i've similar straight thru back-box ..
from se88's sale on these pages .. sometime back ..

I'm trying to get the parts together to make my own slim SS rear silencer. I'm currently at the mercy of dumb arse suppliers :(

Fitted silencer - you can't see it at all when standing up ! Some slight resonance at tickover, after that slightly deeper note but not invasive.

Hi Andy, can you unbolt the tow hitch part from the towbar from under the bumper ? if not, you are losing around 10 - 12 degrees exit angle on the already fairly poor base exit angle.
Joe
That's the fixed factory style tow bar Joe. So it's not removable, like mine is. So having a slim exhaust box doesn't, in this case doesn't improve angles.

Hi Andy mate.
Hope this helps- forgive the crappy drawing lol

The tow hitch isnt a problem IF the main part is removable. If not, it will completely ruin the 'exit' angle of the rear end by a considerable amount that usually means the exhaust ceases to become the issue, it is the towbar that becomes a problem.
Well, to put it more clearly, the tow BAR attached to the underbody is not an issue - it is the towing ATTACHMENT bar unitt hat is the issue unless fully removable for off road. (read up on exit angle for off road)
Look at this crappy picture of mine :)
As you may be able to see, the exit angle without the towbar hitch unit is MUCH greater than WITH the hitch unit

Hopefully you can see that the hitch bar would foul long before the exhaust.
Now, if you look at the diagram of my towbar assembly, you will see that the hitch bar and ball unit is removable below the bumper for offroad use. (mine has to be unbolted) - many more expensive ones can be removed quite easily
Here is the description of my unit. (attached)
Hope this all makes sense ? if not please ask
Cheers Andy;)
Joe

Lol :) Hi Nodge - I posted at the same time and that was what I was attempting to explain :) :) -- you can see my beautiful exit angle demo sketch in the other post haha... It should get an Oscar for Picasso type things - certainly impressionist....
Joe :)

Got it !! Thanks. My problem wasn't exit up incline it was grounding with high middle of track (between wheels). Also it looks much cleaner and tidier and doesn't wallop the tow bar anymore !!!!

I got mine from se88 and funny enough my stainless silencer sits over on the right hand side ,

My own version will have the silencer sitting in the same place as the original. I'm just using a smaller diameter, straight through SS silencer of the same length as the original. This will keep the positioning of the original setup.

was really pleased with it whilst off road at the last lz meet , didn't catch the ground once

does make the tone sound slightly different , assume that's because it's a straight through box

take my hat off to u and will be great to see when you've built one , also know stainless steel welding is an art

All the parts I need to make my own version have finally arrived.
I laid them out tonight, just to see where I need to trim the pipe.
