Hi

I have purchased some RX8 Seats today and Mud Seat Rails for my Defender 90 200tdi, however I am a bit unsure on how to install the drivers seat.

Seems to be guides for installing the passenger side but cant see any for the drivers.

Picture attached is the drivers side, what needs to go, what needs to stay.

Thanks for your responses.

I'd start by stripping down to the flat rails then dry fit with your mud rails, line up what you need to and take it from there. It's not really an exact process you've kinda just gotta make different seats fit yourself.

I would use the original seat mounts at all times, the m10(?) Rivnuts

It's the same process Mate, remove all the brackets but you need to drill 2 holes into the new seat rails to accommodate the brass runner bolts that seat uses to move forwards and backwards.

I'm also hopefully picking up a set of Rx8 seats at the weekend. What's the going rate for these? They are black leather in great condition apart from some scuffs on the drivers bolster.

That's ok then. Guys asking 150 for full interior. God knows what I'll do with 2 back seats and door cards.

Haha I know, hopefully you can shift em for a few quid, £150 is good for just front seats I think, if they're in decent nick. If you get £30 for the rest it's a bonus

Got mine now. £100 and delighted. But they are all electric powered and heated. How the hell do you wire them up. The guy was good enough to cut the ends off a loom he had and gave me them to help with wiring them up.

Can't think of the colours right now but there's a you tube video showing how. Most important to watch this before you wire up to a battery incase you connect air bags then BOOM, no more seats .

I was just thinking about the airbags. That's a bit of a worry. Can they be removed ?

I’m going to be fitting these seats soon, so looking for some advice. They are electric and I have the female connections off the original loom. What size wire do I need for the heated seats. Do I need one relay for both seats? Is it better to wire the seats into the fuse box. If anyone has installed Rx8 electric heated seats in a Defender with switches, fuses and relays, a stage by stage guide would be much appreciated ??

I've fitted mine but haven't wired them yet. just wondered have you got the rocker button to the left of the main switches and if so do you know what it's for? I have the rocker button but no switch behind it.
I haven't really worked out whats what on it yet. There are 3 controls on the side of the drivers seat. Long front one I think will be the forward/back and base height control. The other two I think will be back angle and lumbar ?? We might need to work together on this one and hopefully two heads will be better than one. My electrickery knowledge is next to nothing though.

Plenty info on you tube. I've the two switches that does forward and back, seat rise and fall and the last rocker switch which just wobbles . It's not got a switch behind it. It could have been for lumber ? I wonder are there different standards of seat? Mine are the full leather. Perhaps they have full leather with different actions depending on model of rx8.

I have looked at youtube, but not finding an idiots guide simple enough for me. I know I can splice/solder wires onto the connections I have. I also have a Raptor dash now that I am going to fit toggle switches in for both seats heaters. I want to know how to connect to live/ignition, where the best place to connect to is etc ?? As I have said, I am hopeless at this, but can do it if pointed in the right direction.

Connect heaters via a suitable relay to the battery with a fuse - I would have a fuse for each and an independent feed to each relay.

Then have your toggle switches to switch the relays on - the toggle switch should be fed from an ignition switched live so you cannot leave them on with ign. off.

Thanks for that. When you say connect heaters to battery, does that mean direct to battery post via a relay. Also what is involved in feeding the switch from ignition. Does that mean splicing into a cable that is fed from the ignition, and if so, how do I identify one that is?
