Can I ask where you go to sort out your UJ's? You can buy a whole propshaft for £50 and fit it yourself

Hi Buxto, know how you feel. Just bought a M reg Disco 300tdi auto. Fork out £350 for a cam belt change then got hit with another £450 for a cylinder head jasket. However, that said I've just finished rebuilding pretty much the entire underside of the wagon, all the bushes, all the seals, fluids, pads and discs, lower link assy's. You name it and I've changed it. Generally the work is not overcomplicated. It's good solid agricultural engineering. Don't be frightened to hit it with a hammer (nylon ended obviously). My one bit of advice is, if you're going to remove any bolts etc give them a damn good soak in WD40 before hand. Mine had been in for 18years and were quite determined they weren't coming out. A good purchase is a little kit for extracting rounded head nuts. These can be bought on flea-bay for around £20. All in, the spares I've replaced probably cost no more than about £250 but I've saved myself well over a grand in labour costs. And it's bloody good fun!

Lovin' me Landie

I can see why you left it to the garage but if your willing you may find that its not that bad, can be done easily on the floor and there really is nothing difficult about these jobs, I don't even take mine into work anymore as its just as easy to do on my drive at home and I can leave it there for a week or so....

All true. I have rebuilt (like from scratch, welding, engine gearbox rebuild etc) a classic Mini and built 2 kit cars. I'm getting on a bit so avoid the heavier jobs but its worth making the point that a lot of money can still be saved doing the simpler jobs - couple of examples:

Oil and filters changed £37, special offer at dealers atm £149!!!!

Discs and pads allround £110 for parts, even Kwik fit want around £600 for this simple job....

ive thought bollocks to it for this job and matey is doing it just as i havent got the time at the moment, but i am currently trolling through this site of ****ty little jobs to do once its back and i get bored also just bought a Haynes a nice jack and a few shiny new tools! ;)
