I am going a bit senile but I think it was paddocks I saw that in , but I would trust ashcrofts more than paddocks lol.

Thing about fitting a whole new transfer box is its the labour that costs but a v/c is cheaper to fit.

I would go for a good used v/c to start with and if it works you have saved some cash but if not you havnt lost alot!:D

Is changing the transfer box a buggr then? I've not actually looked into it but assumed it couldn't be that bad.

I read on Ashcroft's site that after about 100k miles the chain in the transfer box needs replacing too and that costs a fortune on it's own so I thought it would make sense to do the whole box as I suspect mine might be showing slight stretched chain symptoms...

In general terms it is quite straight forward but if you've not got a ramp, an extra pair of hands and an appropriate stand/jack it is a bit of a handful. Transfer boxes are very heavy and you wouldn't want to drop it on yer head or yer toes!
