Whos number 1?
And on this chart run down where do i fit in?
In answer to the initial question.Yes you have a an oil leak. You can tell by the way oil is leaking out. Also note that its near that round thing-possibly a steering vibration damper of some sort. What you wanna do is get that fixed.
Pompus wazzock.

Locket - have you read this thread?
he was told in posts 2 & 4 what it was. He posted pics in post 7 and was told again in post 12 and 37 what it is.

If he dont believe us, aint listening and cant be bothered to search as was suggested by Drippy in post 8, then it is he, not us that is being ignorant and rude.

As you seem to like informing new posters, take your own advice, and do a search for no 1.

The example in your post is typical of the juvenile replies that seem to come from certain people on here.

If you have nothing sensible to say then do not bother, Ian was asking for advice which did not warrant all the silly, and frankly inane comments.

This is exactly the sort of pompous, boring, "get a life" tw@t that many of the regulars are trying to escape by going to the other forum that we aint allowed to mention.
Locket - I suggest that you would fit in better on LR4X4 - thats full a sanctamoniuos coonts like you.

Is it not a damper for harmonic vibration?
And also it looks like you've got an oil leak. Dont think its the damper tho.quote]
This is a quote of my reply. Firstly i have put what i think it is in answer to the first post and the initial question.

This is a quote of my second post where i reiterrate what it is and also offer additonal advice. All for free, for no reward, off my own back.
My second point is at what stage have i recommende that he does a search?Seeing as MHM has stated his question has been answered several times why would he need to search?
that sed i will search for the number 1, but that will not tell me where i place in the afore mentioned poptastic chart run down.

so what's a harmonic damper when it's at home then...

and I thought there were a whole bunch of T.O.S.S.E.R.S rather than a heirachy of tossers.... oh well you lives and learns...

I no eggspurt but as far as I know the harmonic dampers are there to reduce vibration through transmission/chassis/engine. They can be fitted to engines, usually to the crankshaft but on Landrovers, they have them on the transmission. RRC has one on front axle as do other land Rovers.

The damper is composed of two elements: a mass and an energy dissipating element. The mass resists the acceleration of the vibration and the energy dissipating (rubber/clutch/fluid) element absorbs the vibrations. Does that answer ya question.

well it wobbles a little an can be easily rotated by hand. But aint no wobble in the steering(unless i put me wheels on wrong)!

sounds cool and thank you yes that answers my Q..

aint one on my discovery as far as I can see and that don't vibrate...

mind you maybe it's like the princess and the pea and you have to be a rangie driver to feel it ;)
