Rope around front of defender

If you clipped your winch rope to top of windscreen or back end of wings (a decent amount unspooled) when you go to use it you dont have to wind that bit out and back in again

The difference between your two photos is that the first looks like the owner does not have a home to attach the winch hook to, so has looped the cable around to hold the hook and stop it rattling around. Normally on that sort of bumper it would have "shackles" inserted in to the two holes either side of the top of the steering guard plate.

The second rope is as you say the spectre look, good luck keeping it as someone will have it away.

After further viewing, both pictures clearly show neither vehicle has ever been near a muddy puddle, let alone terrain requiring a winch...
