Managed to pick up a decent roof rack off Gumtree. I'm thinking of put mesh inside, so all my camping gear doesn't fall through the gaps. Any suggestions on the type of mesh would be great.

Job tonight is to attach my led lamps onto it. I'm using motorbike mirror clamps bolted to the lights to attach to the rack, as it's 20mm tube.

I've test fitted the rack using u bolts, on to the rails of my 3 door and it looks gruff!!

As I said it's for my camping gear and another wheel, but whats the max weight you'd carry?

Cheers

manual says max weight 75kg

Correct. 75 KG is the manufacturers load limit, which would also include the weight of the rack and anything bolted to it.

Is to wether the OP wants to stick to that, or exceeds it is up to them. I've had 250 Kgs of timber on my roof many times and I didn't notice much difference. It did lean more on roundabouts, but otherwise felt fine for the 8 miles I drove with that weight on top.

Blinkin Ek that's a bit overloaded :)

I was a little concerned when I stuck 40kg of gazebo on it today. Mind you I was more concerned about putting a big dent in the bonnet if I broke to hard than doing damage to the chassis :)

Hi I use pallet racking on my roof rack .you can buy it on eBay cheap theirs a place in Blackburn selling it I went to pick it up and the where really friendly and let me try a few different sizes then I used heavy duty cable ties to fit it after I painted it satin black they are strong light and galvanized
It looks like it was made from the factory now its fitted

I took the plastic cap off the factory rails at the front, removed a bolt and routed the cable down the hole. Then took it along the roof lining and down the window pillar, then down the dash to the bonnet release cable. Which goes to the engine bay then into a relay. The rear lamp follows the same route but will be wired to a switch I've installed in the dash.
