Hi.
I am restoring my 1984 109 and need to remove an LPG Tank from the Tub. The Tank is about 25% full. Is there any way to shut off the gas at the Tank or do I need to drain off all the gas when I disconnect the pipe feeding the Vaporiser ?. It is a Romano Stage 1 LPG Kit.

The kit may have a decent value so its worth thinking about how to get it out. Is the vehicle drivable? If so can you take it to an installer and get the fuel drained off?

I intend reusing the LPG system again in the 109 once I have it restored. It is half dismantled at the moment, so cant take it to an Installer. I thought that there might be a shut off valve at the tank. The only other way I can see is to slacken off the outlet pipe at the tank and let the Gas drain itself off into the air.

Can you not disconnect the pipe at the other end and feed it back ? Don't know where you live as in are there other houses near by but if you let the gas go it could start an alert and the Garda at your door.
 
I have an lpg system on my Land Rover and read up about it just after purchasing.
My understanding of the rules is that the tank must have a shut off valve fitted.
Indeed on mine, underneath the pipe it has a shut off valve, it is only a small lever about an inch long that you need double jointed wrist to get at. You then have to turn it 90 degrees. I had to use a mirror to see it under the pipes, and that was after pulling back a plastic cover.
Really difficult to see or get to. But it was there.
My system is probably 8 years old. I don’t know if it has always been a requirement to have a shut off valve. I would think yes?
 
There are 2 thumb screw fittings on the Multivalve unit. I am going to see it by turning them either way that might do the job. Will let you know.
 
There should be a valve at the tank also a auto shut off Incase of pipe breakage. Maybe even a solenoid.

If you crack the pipe the auto shut valve should close, but depending on type (auto or manual reset) if it’s auto reset I believe it leaks through a very small amount to try and equalize the pressure and reopen the valve.

Please be careful, search the net for your system and see what you find I am sure there’s plenty on the net with pics.

It has a Solenoid fitted on the outlet port. I tightened up the Thumb Screw fully and disconnected the outlet pipe and all seems OK, no Gas escaping. I have withdrawn the pipe and wiring from the Tub. I am hoping to remove the Tub without having to remove the tank from the Tub. Think I am ready now.

Tightened up the outlet Thumb Screw fully, removed power to the Solenoid and removed the pipe. Only a very small amount of gas escaped from the pipe and then stopped. Tub, inc LPG Tank removed safely. Thanks again.
