Great job your doing here mate :) . Regarding the serpentine belt tensioner, you could just change the bearing yourself to save some extra money

Thank you :)

Didn't know you could just change the bearing...... May have to do just that. :) Cheers.

If I spay wd40 on the bearing the squeak goes away but soon comes back. Need to do the timing belt (unsure of when it was last done) also so will do it once I have all the bits and bobs. May as well do it all at the same time.

Might even steam clean and paint the engine whilst I'm in there :D

No bother :) ..It will save you a good bit, video's on youtube showing how to if you need it. Gotta do a load to my own as well, its all time and money, eventually though, but land rovers never seem to be "fully" finished

Haha yea they are never finished. Oh well keeps us busy I suppose. And definitely better than owning a boring car that goes on and on for years without the need for anything but a service. :)

Regarding the serpentine belt tensioner bearing.
I read somewhere that the bearing in the air con pulley fits? If so I'm ripping the air con out anyway to fit a second alternator so may use that.
Anyone know if this is correct?

I used the air con bearing in mine til i fitted a new tensioner, the tensioner itself can wear so check the lines on it.I think its if they are close it needs changing?

Nice one. :) will give it a go once I've ripped the air con out.

Not sure when that'll be though as I'm working 65 hour weeks for the indefinite future

On the plus side I'll get to save some money to spend on her. :p

Also did get a bit done today although not that much. Mostly spent the day underneath making sure everything was torqued up ready for MOT.

But did start getting some plywood cut to shape ready to 'van' out the back.

Needs a little more fettling to fit but almost there. :)

Will order some more plywood soon and completely separate the boot from the rest of the vehicle.

And then a pic of as she stands at the moment almost ready for MOT and generally in one piece. . (tyres are temporary until I get newuns :D)

Definitely needs painting a different colour. :D

Cheers :)

Hello everyone. :)

Not much of an update but news. She has passed her MOT! :5bparty: :D:D

Failed on 3 things to start with until I got to the test centre half hour later armed with the things to get it through.
1. Was a split pin missing from the drag link. 2. Split pin missing from the A-frame ball joint nut. (I swear I fitted that though) and finally, A section of braided brake hose was inadequately attached.
So armed with the 2 split pins and p clip, got that done whilst my MOT certificate was printed. :D

Now to re-remove the anti roll bars and get it muddy. :D

Have some more mods coming very soon. Just saving up some dollar to buy some stuff. :)

Cheers.

Whilst I'm thinking about it. Forgot to mention I now have some high temp glue so I will be attempting to reupholster the headlining at the weekend. Will take pictures and let you know how I get on and see if it looks any better. :)

Well done on the mot mate. Hoping to get on with manual gearbox conversion soon so I can get her muddy.

Look forward to see how you get on with the headlining. Mines crap and I really wanna re-trim it in black.

Cheers mate. :) Definitely looking forward to using it in anger off road. May have to go have a play at muddy bottom in a couple of weeks time. :D

Get on get it done it should be easy enough. You pulling the engine out to do it or working from underneath on the drive like I did? Or have you got a ramp? :) looking back I wish I had pulled the engine out to change the clutch. Would have been easier. :p

Regards the headlining. I bought some high temp glue and have loads of black faux suede that I'm retrimming with. Hopefully it should look pretty good. If not I'll just paint it. :p
If all goes well though I may attempt retrimming the non abs dashboard I have too. :D

Never been there, keep hearing about it though.
Was going to remove the engine and box in one but now might just take the box off and leave the engine in. Just need to see how much clearance I have to swap the pedal box.
Swapped a few gearbox's and leaving the engine in place and put the crane through the drivers door does seem to be quicker.

Aye that sounds like it will look really good. I've always hated the cream coloured lining.and rather it was black. I'll have to have a look for suede and high temp glue meself.
Ideally need to find a sunroof less roof lining too as their coming out. Fecking leaks lol

Me either. Looks like a good site though and it's only 15 minutes down the road from my gaff. :)

Fair enough bud. I just thought it was a pain doing it from underneath. Might have had something to do with having to cut a hole in my bellhousing to separate the box and engine though! Haha!
Pedal box should come out with engine in iirc.

I hope it'll look good and not fall off after a week :D And I agree the cream looks crap. As for the faux suede I just went in a fabric shop, was bloody cheap too. High temp glue was under a tenner for 3 spray cans off fleabay.
I'd like a sunroof less headlining as my sunroofs are now sealed. But finding one is another problem. Gave up trying to fix the leaks and shoved shed loads of Tiger seal in the sunroofs. No more leaking! Doesn't seem quite right now it doesn't leak. :D

Hi again all.

Finally got the headlining out today, stripped it and retrimmed it. And I'm very happy with how it's turnt out. :)
Was an absolute pain to do but was definitely worth it.

Here's what it looked like after ripping the sagging horrible coloured crap that land rover put on.

Almost done.

And back in the disco.

Looks 10 million times better than what it did.
Roughly used about 2 and a half cans of spray adhesive.

Then gave it a wash and polish.

Also have a southdown snorkel on the way as well as a 6 spot light bar for the roof. So looking forward for them to arrive. :D

Cheers.

Thanks. :)

It's only black faux suede from fabricland. Bought about 8 square metres for under a tenner.

Looks great - was it easy to apply?

I did my subs in Veltrim (used by a lot of the VW T5 guys) and the next step is the head-liner.

It was a bit of a pain if I'm honest. It's a large area to cover and an awkward shape so getting it right requires a bit of patience. I still managed to get a few creases in the fabric which let's it down a bit but not bad for a first effort. :D 2 out of 3 of the creases are hidden under the roof console bits anyway. :)

I started from the front and worked my way to the back. Sticking down about a foot at a time. Just make sure you spray both the headliner and material your using to stick it down and use plenty of the high temp glue. Wait for it to go tacky before sticking it down too then pull it tight and slowly stick it down.

Them speaker boxes do look the shizz mate. Looking at doing something similar when I put speakers in mine. And I was thinking of using veltrim after seeing your thread but the faux suede fabric I used is really thin and very easy to work with.

Now I may buy some more glue and have a go at the spare non abs dashboard I have stashed away........ :D

Yer it's all swings and roundabouts really. Easier to rremove engine from box on the floor but don't have to remove rad, coolant, hoses, wiring harness and god knows what else from engine to take it out in one.
Take weight of box on crane, undo bolts and lower onto creeper and pull it. That easy haha!
Yes I'm hoping the pedal box won't be too much of a problem.

how much fabric did you go for?
Yer I had one in my old truck that I managed to find in a scrapyard! I'm planning on doing what I did with my old truck which was rip the sunroofs completely out and tiger seal and rivet 2 sheets of ally on the roof. No more leaks lol.

That's looks bloody brilliant! You gonna do anything with the crane trims?

Haha yea. Well if I ever do a clutch again it's definitely engine out job. Much easier imo. :)

Goodnight luck anyways.:p

Cheers. Definitely looks a lot better than it did. The trim may get the paint treatment tbh. But planning on boarding out the back to store stuff. Mainly spares, tools and off road gear. Oh and of course something so I can brew up :D

Can't remember exactly how much material I used but I had quite a bit. Have a fair bit left over so may attempt the non abs dash next as the current one is peeling up by the windscreen. :(

Hey guys.

Back with another update.

Light bar has arrived and is now fitted. (apologies for the crap photo I'll take another tomorrow in daylight.) Just need to finish wiring it up when my carling switches arrive :D

Also have some new seat covers as you can see in the photo. Definitely should save the seats from being wrecked when I off road it.
Still also need to wire up the CB properly. And still waiting for the southdown snorkel to arrive. Ah well that may be tomorrow nights job in the dark :p
