I have purchased unglazed door tops and am all ready to go , can I use regular window sealant that comes in a tube for area between fitted glass and outer frame , someone has advised I use glazing putty but I imagine that drying and faling out over time , also is it a bad idea to rivet in strips rather than use small self tapping srews , I have a million rivets but no screws ,

Thanks

just hoping tops fit snug , one of the bolts seems to be at a slight angle ,
dont know if this is intentional to stop it leaning outwards.

ok ill have a go at that , how long did you leave it to set ? , did you also use it for the vertical metal strip that holds the fixed piece of glass in that faces inside of door?

Final question ........ did you also use it to seal fixed glass to outside of frame or did you use some sort of glazing sealant ?, I imagine if you use glue for that it wont come off for next time.

Thanks mistericeman , that will save me hrs , Thanks

Truth is mate ....

DumDum the traditional sealant is now made out of unobtanium ....AND drilling holes in a metal door top where water is guaranteed to sit is a recipe for replacing them on a regular basis .
IF you bought the plastic glazing channel available from certain "Clubs" s3/110/and 90 springs to mind ...
Glue it into place AND pour paint into the doortop through ANY available holes whilst off the vehicle and then rotate the whole lot through 360 degrees several times over,THEN you would probably never need to replace them again lol .

You'll never get the rivet gun into the runner space, best to glue it. You can use the small flat head self tapping screws (Craddocks sell them in packs of 20) but they are also a pain the arse to fit without using a hammer to get them to bite through the runner n onto the door top itself. The runner will degrade and rust anyway as its got metal in it (I'd give it 5 years if stored outside) as its just a sponge to any rain. I did my side windows and it was a tricky job getting the glass back in the new runners.
