evening chaps. I believe I may have bought a ringer 90.

My own fault for being too hasty I'll admit.

It's clearly a 90 on a private plate but the paperwork says built in 1960 and registered in 1971

I suspect a previous owner has done whatever to avoid paying tax on it.

Is it possible to do something to start paying tax and keep the truck?

Or any other avenues?

Thanks in advance

has it got a vin number on front rhs chassis leg, if its a bitsa and its been done a good while is one thing , fitting another plate on a whole vehicle is another

Yes. I've just paid for a vehicle check thingy too. All seems legit Unsure about the tax exemption though as it's coil sprung. Or would that not matter?
The check came back and said the original 1960 reg number was replaced with the existing one in 1997.

One thing ,

With the advent of ANPR, and the deletion of the tax disc. Is it now a case that having a vehicle that "May" ( and I am not saying this is the case here )be illegally taking advantage of the Classic / Age tax exemption class will get away with it?. As it is not a matter of someone reading a tax disc and having to think " why is this tax exempt?", not that I think many traffic wardens would know the difference on an old Landie.

Cheers

Less likely to be caught, but it would only take one knowledgable MOT inspector or tyre fitter etc. to realise something wasn't right and then the owner is in a whole world of poop.

Although that would involve them calling the police to state they think the vehicle is stolen / dodgy ID.

Cheers

I truly think the ANPR system is not all thats its cracked up to be, wifes car we both forgot the mot for quite a few months several in fact! she passes loads of ANPR daily, not a squeak from anyone, I know its not the end of the world but surely not mot may mean other things wrong?
Naturally its her fault after all its her car and shes the calendar keeper.

Then theres her new to her car, bought and not taxed until 6 weeks later again no problems, same route same ANPR etc, which is exactly what the car sales guy said so they do tell the truth every now and then:D

Like most thing government I wouldnt mind betting its underfunded/underspecced/under maintained and a good chunk of it doesnt work, like what speed cameras used to be like years ago.

I thought if it was done a certain

When we were getting ready for the rally I was buying some cars for other rally teams in other countries to earn some rally cash, once I forgot to insure the car I was driving and a police car followed us for a while and then went. We were manically trying to insure it on my brothers phone at the time! The car garage that helped us never even bother to add their personal cars to their insurance database and have never been pulled over.

Getting back to the Land Rover above, was there something where if it was done a certain amount of time ago it doesn't matter?

The only thing that's been done to the Landy is it's got a VIN & logbook from a now obsolete older vehicle. The 90 itself can possibly be a stolen vehicle. It is not a modified '60/'71 Series, 99.99% sure about that.

The O/P has not said whether the Landy above is the one he's bought.
Maybe if he could answer that question some progress could be made to find out what he has bought.
