I feel sorry for the OP but I don't like Land rover Theft and Fraud

Wow....Like, do ya thunk???? Or is there also the chance a PO did not want to pay for road tax and just took the V5 and chassis from an old 2A clunker and used that?

Cheers

If he's worried he can go and get the Vehicle Identity checked and verified by VOSA or whatever they're called this week ...

I have to think the OP, unfortunately must not be very LR savvy,

As anyone and their dog including Joe Soap, could tell that a coil sprung 90 should not be registered as a 2A registration and definitely not be TAX exempt.

Cheers

Where is @BradStuart anyway?
There's a slim chance that the PO swapped VIN to a 90 that was his, but it's a bit risky just to save a couple of hundred a year in tax. Why didn't he keep the original Series reg plates on? Because that would stand out like a sore thumb. Why not keep the plates on from the 200tdi 90? Oh yeah, cos it's nicked! Private plates conceal it's dirty secret!

The O/P is still silent.

It's fairly brave posting on here that you may have unwittingly bought a stolen Landy though! I mean, not everybody will by sympathetic....

It is not the only one in the last Year, I can think of two others . But, they purchased std looking and dated 90's that on examination were found to have discrepancies that led to a questionable provenance.

But, ( and I am not sure if this would work )The only way i could see it going for this guy is if his motor has no identifying markers showing it is stolen. Then he may be able to get a Q reg for it.

Without the full history and paperwork, it is supposition, even if it is highly probable of what the real history of this vehicle is. He did come on here askign how he could start paying RFL as he thought there was something wrong with it.

Cheers

Mod the existing chassis to take coils, lengthen it enough to take 90 body parts - it's been done loads of times. Change the bulkhead/engine/gearbox, again easy for someone who can weld a bit. There was one up the street from me until recently, a member of the local Land Rover club - not some dodgy bloke. He hadn't changed the bulkhead, so still had the series split screen, but there wasn't much else left that was original.

Yes, but in that case it should be on a Q plate if done after a certain date as I understand it.

I wonder what that date is - someone on here is bound to know. If it's later than 1984 then you can have a 90/110 with an early logbook/Vin and no q plate. The whole thing relies on the owner or someone else letting the DVA know anyway.

I think its late 90s possibly 97?
I think the op staying quiet is the best thing he can do.
Always worth looking up radically altered and seeing what points you gain/lose for important bits like the axles/engine/suspension etc

You have to prove the original VIN first, then DVLA give you a letter to reg the vehicle...

If it is this one, which I believe it is as it ticks all the boxes...

...then the previous owner has done a good job in transforming it from this...

The second one looks like a 100inch wheelbase, unless my old eyes are deceiving me.....

Not sure if it is the same one, maybe just a guy who buys and moves on old Landies.

Cheers
It is a 100. Looks about 60s/early 70s. A bit of a wreck being sold with no logbook, then a few months later a blatant Defender shows up with a logbook from a 60s/70s Series ii. Hmmm...
The guy does not appear to be a car seller, although he may own another 110.
