Rigid industries LED light bars

You can buy the 41" 240w bars for about £200 direct from China if you buy a case of them (6?) - there's been a few group buys on other forums for them. I bought one but haven't got round to wiring it up yet. It's ridiculously bright...

The 24W ones work out at about £30 each. The only downside is you are dealing direct with the manufacturer, so you have to buy by the case and one person has to organise it all, take the money, pay china etc, arrange onward UK delivery etc...

Wow those are pretty nice! From my own investigation it seems that vac formed pods may not work, even in polycarbonate. These LED's get quite hot it seems, which is why all these bars have ali frames as they are one massive heat sink at the back!

Austen if you do buy a crate in I'd be interested :).

Would 1200lm give good output, thinking of getting a pair of cree LED spotlights that give out 1200lm each......and would they be better than 55w spotlights? Cheers. :)

1200 Lumens is respectable and they will probably be a bit brighter than 55W halo's. Which ones are you getting?

Wow those are nice Duncan! These units are really very simple and all use the same Cree or Epistar LED's which are cheap but very good - even the pricey US one uses Cree XPG's. I think the expense comes from the Ali extrusion they use for the housing - probably very expensive to tool and extrude outside China.

I don't like Patronising Chinese company's when there are Western companies that do the same thing better, but jeez the price is a killer!

Price is the big thing for me Will. Don't know if you seen the pic of my reverse lights, but they were less than £5 for both bulbs. If I could get them for that price here I would.

Yep sadly it always comes down to the bottom line - China and big business have the game rigged and what can you do about that?

That ebay shop has absolutely feck-loads, I've come acroos it before he seems like the go-to guys for LED truck lighting. Some really nice ones there and as they are dead simple they can't be that bad.

Clearly though making these into a light pod would be very tricky and even if you could figure out the PCB and reflectors it would have to be GRP to take the heat.

I would be interested if you do get 1 made up. I'll let you know how I get on with the 1's I've linked. I'm gonna order some H3 CREE as well, not sure what the projection will be like with these.

They look good Jamie. Not a bad price either.

Going to ring tomorrow, see how deep they are.....don't want them to look like cannons lol....will fit whatever lights I get, where the rectangle spot lights are. :)

I'm pretty sure I've read on a few threads of those X-lights not being all that great.
Ask auf_wiedersehen_pet, I'm sure he either has or has had them.

How would one go about making a light bar to mount to a Hippo's roof or rails then? I can see four of those slightly oval shaped ones looking really nice atop a Freelander :).

I have the standard short roof rails fitted to mine. I measured the distance from the outside edge of them, then bent some 1" steel pipe to that measurement with a 90deg bend at each end. It was a "temporary" install when I done it two years ago, it's still there now. It's held onto the roof rails by 4 jubilee clips. It has 4 roof lights fitted at the minute, but think they coming off in the near future to be replaced with a roof rack. I will start a new thread when I do eventually start the roof rack, but I need to finish my cart trailer first.

I keep saying I will do a photo of the roof rack, so I'm off now with my camera and a big spot light, wait out for it.
