Freelander 1 Right Hand Indicators make BOTH sides flash!

A little update, because I'm close to giving it a garage which I am reluctant to do.

I have eliminated the indicator switch by shorting out the contacts in the connector manually.
I have eliminated the hazard switch by replacing it with another one.
I have eliminated the trailer connector by removing it.
I have eliminated the flasher relay by replacing it.
I have taken every bulb out one by one and tested inbetween and the same result.

I'm really unsure of where to go now, the only other avenues to go down are to search the entire wiring loom for cable faults?
 
Had a look at the circuit. You have eliminated most areas where the LH and RH come together. As you say, it could be a wiring fault but as you blew a fuse earlier and the dash was involved, the next place I would look is at the diodes that are there to prevent left and right being connected together when not fed by the hazard relay. Now, where they are is a bit of a mystery. The Hazard Relay is in the interior fuse box - according to Haynes. The diodes are also part of this box (according to Haynes). A fault on either diode would cause your problem.

I'll look in RAVE and see if I can locate them !
 
They are shown as G126 and marked LH and RH and are in the passenger fuse box somewhere ! Anyone know where they are to help Callum out???

In case you don't get 'diodes' they allow a one way flow of current. So - when hazard relay is energised a feed passes through the both to LH and RH side indicators. When you indicate the feed can't pass the 'wrong' way through the diode so only energises the LH or RH. If a diode has failed short circuit (which can be tested with a simple ohm meter) then a LH indicator will false feed the RH and vs versa.........................

I'll try to locate the diodes and test them, I used to be an electronics engineer and I'm an alarm engineer so this is frustrating not being able to find it! Your idea does sound promising
 
I didn't even know the system contained diodes.:oops:
I guess LR decided they were necessary, or they wouldn't be there.

Yes I see them and why they're there. The hazard relay is only a single pole, so the diodes are needed to feed both sides when the hazards are on.
It's very likely that one of the diodes is passing current to the other side when the indicator is on.

Well he's not wrong they do exist.
 
I'd mark where the plugs come out of, as there are loads going into the back of the CCU/fuse assembly.

check the solder joints at both ends of each of the diodes (other side of PCB).... and that black lump to the right of the diodes looks like it is damaged - could be a relay.....
