Hi all,I have used the workround for about a year now with no problems.However the relay has failed and I have purchased a new different one. Everything tests out perfectly but when I press the button ,the two terminals are connected using the multimeter, but the car remote will not lock or unlock the car. my knowledge of electronics is zero and I cannot understand why.! Any information would be of great help thanks.
 
The relays are normally 4-wire affair. 2 power the relay and the other two are the pass through for whatever device you're attaching. Does the relay click when you press the remote button? With the relay power connected and a multimeter across the other 2 wires, do you get a short when the relay energises? If the relay clicks but you get no short circuit reading, either the relays knacked or there's a problem with the service wires where they're connected into the relay.
 
Hi yes the power light is on and the" relay" clicks and the common and n.o.(normally open) contacts are fully connected on the multimeter.but the range rover remote will not operate the locks.
 
Just had another thought, have you tapped the power and earth from the rf receiver's supply or have you cut the supply to the receiver? If I remember correctly, you need to tap off the power and earth (to get +12v and earth to the relay) then cut the +12v line between the tap off point and the rf receiver. You then need to connect one side of this cut to one of the 2 service wires coming from the relay and the other side of the cut to the other service wire. That way the rf receiver doesn't get power unless the relay is energised. If you have cut the power and earth to the rf receiver and connected these to the relay, no power will get through to the rf receiver whether the relay is energised or not.
 
No.I have had the system working for 12 months. the remote packed in and I had to buy another one. it all worked before. thanks anyway
 
Just found this on an old thread:

I wired this in at the receiver, cutting the orange wire and running that through the relay and taking the power supply from the live and ground feeding the receiver, you now have to press the new remote to lock-arm the relay then use your car fob as normal. on leaving car lock as normal then disarm the new relay
The becm should no longer wake up and you can still use you key fob from a distance (ok two key fobs from a distance :D ) hope that makes sense.

So, tap off the power and earth, then cut the orange wire and connect one side to each of the service wires.
 
Sorry, read the initial thread too quickly :oops: So am I correct that you still have the original setup that was working previously in place and the only thing you've changed is the remote? Does the remote operate the relay correctly (on and off)? Nothing else has been swapped/disconnected? Is the battery in the car remote known good?
 
Could it be that because it is 433Mhz (i think) its the same as the car receiver so when i use the RRfob it switches off the new receiver?
