Hi Everyone,

I'm considering getting a latest shape Range Rover. How easily can you retro-fit Apple CarPlay?

Also - How comfortable is the back seat for three adults?

Thanks,

David

You may be better asking a Salesman from a Land Rover dealer your 1st question, no doubt an added extra
and popping along to the Dealer and try the back seats.
We all have old land rovers and if we sold all of ours we still couldn't afford 1 new land rover between us

I wouldn't even want a new one.

And that upsets me.

However yes OP, go to a dealer

Don't worry - I cannot afford a new one either!
Is there a better site for newer Land Rovers? I'd love to run an old one but my wife would probably evict me if I got another vehicle. ;-)

Cheers,

David

For your initial question , I would agree, ask your dealer. The 'latest' variation, I believe is the 2014 and I know at that age I wouldn't be messing with all the magic inside  Don't know if it is anything like the L322, if it do you really want to take your dash apart to get at the system? Especially when you already have a good system.
For the second question, go sit in it. Have a test drive. Take your three adults, ask them if they're comfortable. I find my L322 comfortable to sit in but short of leg room. You would find it different. It's all down to the individual what they find comfortable

As to is there a better site for newer. The answer is no. All of these sites have the same type of members, some are clueless, some happy spanner monkeys, some electronic gurus, some stuck in the past and wont touch the electrickery models, some are absolute gurus , some have gained their knowledge from working on their own vehicles and some work for Land Rover. The one thing in common, is they are all playing catch up, as owners of newer models crop up and new problems looked at, solved and knowledge gained. No matter what age your LR/RR this is the place to be. We learn from each other and share what we know. There is always a 'first' for everything. You are just the first to ask this particular question. Whilst most of us won't know the answer, you can be sure it won't be long until one of our members does.
The fact that the L405 is no longer 'new'( just expensive for the older ones, which will change in 2yrs I expect and the bottom will drop out, as it does with RRs, as they hit 8) , having been jntroduced in 2012. I had a quick look, and considering the amount of recalls on the L405, hang around a bit and youll have others joining you. ;):D

Thanks Gold Rover,
Good response. My kids are banging on about Car Play which both BMW and Land Rover seem to be dragging their heals on. Compared to our five series I found it very roomy in the back and, to be fair, my family and I seem to have shared gnome genes so are not exactly super tall. Biggest difference is that it is wider across the seat and there is a flattish floor and a little bit of room under the centre console;all of this makes getting in and out easier and feels more roomy.

Slightly concerned by your recalls comment as I thought these newer ones were supposed to be more reliable!? Tell me more about the price dump. We all like a good dump!
Cheers,

David

This might be worth a look at
https://drivemag.com/car-review/land-rover-range-rover-l405-2012-present-review-problems-specs

If your are gnomes/elves/dwarves or even largish faeries, there should be no space issues ;)
From watching the previous models 8yr old seems to be when the price comes down significantly. It is alredy starting to show in the older L405s 5 and 6 year old cars at half to a third of the price of a 1yr old model.
Although you have to take the downside, in 2yrs they will be 8yrs old and bringing their own issues , BUT then a 5 or 6 yr old might also have problems. Forget might...............it's a Range Rover , it will be storing them, ready for you :D :D

Think some use the Spotify system

Thanks Guys,

Much appreciated. Having done a full retrofit of a screen controlled iphone, bluetooth phone connectivity, DAB and digital sound processing in my E46 BM I thought it was worth asking. Worst case, if there is an easy way to do an auxilliary play set-up that could work in terms of keeping the kids happy. Sounds like there are a few options. Remember when suddenly all cars had to have air conditioning? It feels like we are heading the same way with Apple Play; even the aftermarket head units are trying to move that way as we see this paradigm shift to rented, streamed content and no longer owning it (bye bye CDs!).

Cheers,

David

If they start putting Apple in everything, I'll be asking "how do I get it out". I totally disagree with Apple. You can only buy their devices if you buy one, nothing else is compatible. They sell your personal details to marketing companies. Much, much worse in my eyes, they will not work with necessary agencies to access information on devices to help find evidence on terrorists, or access information that may prevent violent crimes and terrorism. I wouldn't have Apple if you gave me one of their devices.
